   Doukas believed in her from the beginning, but others weren't so convinced. It was, after all, the age of the "Glamazon" – Cindy, Linda, Naomi – and Kate was altogether

too fragile, too different, too real. But in 1990, photographer Corinne Day took the decade-defining shots of Kate on a wintry beach for The Face. The touch paper had been lit. She became the title's house model and landed a Calvin Klein contract.

   Despite her success, insecurity lingered. In his book, Kate Moss By Mario Testino (Taschen), the photographer recalls meeting her at a Galliano show. "I went backstage and was amazed to see Kate
