got to be able to pull a guy out of a car with what you’re wearing.”

Her greatest lament, however, is women being driven to surgery at tender ages. “I see people in their twenties doing Botox, which is insane. Who will they be in their forties?” It’s impossible to imagine Hutton – who posed nude and un-airbrushed for Mario Sorrenti aged 62 – scrutinizing her winkles in a magnifying glass, full of self-hatred. “Actually, I was raised to hate myself,” she says slowly. “I had a very disturbed stepfather whose name for me was ‘stupid’.”

Growing up in a well-to-do Charleston household, Hutton moved to Tampa, Florida, after the divorce. Those were some of her unhappiest years. “My mother had been taken over by this new guy; she worked so she wasn’t there a lot.” Yet her stepfather did her a favor in the end, she concedes. “I fought against what he said to keep what was me alive.”

She’s determined to stay that way. After a near-fatal motorcycle crash in 2000 and two months in a Las Vegas hospital (in what the nurses called the “feet first” room, as that was how most people came

out of it), she’s down from two packs to just two cigarettes a day, takes her Pilates machines everywhere and “is doing fine” relationship-wise (after breaking up with Bob Williamson, her companion of 27 years who squandered $13 million of her money, Hutton keeps her love life private). She’s also still in demand as a model. Just don’t ever tell her that she “has it all”. “I hate that phrase. The worst thing is I might have had something to do with its invention. I was 30 on the cover of People and there it was in the headline. A little chill went up my back: there’s no such thing, and to tell women there might be is bad. Anything that creates pressure on women is bad.”

“I had a very disturbed STEPFATHER whose name for me was ‘STUPID’. I fought against what he said”
