  • The Cannes red carpet is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s natural habitat. Her power pout and honey skin, illuminated by low sunlight over the sea; that sandy-blonde hair against the crimson carpet: it just sings. “Red is my power color,” agrees the 26 year old. “I love red. I’m drawn to it. I feel great when I’m wearing it. It’s a sexy, confident color. But it’s got to be a deep, powerful shade.”

And like all power colors, it has to be to used wisely. “There’s a time and a place for it,” she explains. A vivid look-at-me red, floor-length Antonio Berardi gown was perfect for the New York premiere of her first movie, the action blockbuster Transformers: Dark of the Moon, for example. “But I wore black Saint Laurent to the Golden Globes recently, because it was Jason’s evening – he was presenting an award and I was there as his girlfriend, so I wanted to look fantastic, but a little more subtle.”

Jason is, of course, actor Jason Statham, her partner of three years. There’s a 19-year age gap between them, but it seems irrelevant – these two share more

than an almost inhuman bodily perfection. Her ultimate red-carpet tip, for example? “Jason and I just make each other laugh. Most of the time we’re p***ing ourselves laughing, whispering comments in each other’s ears.” Such as? “Oh, you know. Naughty stuff.”

It’s a pleasure to discover RHW – so much easier – is good company. The imperious double-barreled name doesn’t suit her: she’s a small-town girl, born and brought up in Devon on the English coast; her mother and younger brother both work as fitness instructors. The carnal, pouting glamazon persona she puts on for the cameras is just that: an act. In person, she’s warm and impressively focused.

RHW arrives for our breakfast date wearing Helmut Lang black leather pants (“My staple”) with Gucci sandals and a pale denim
