    CHRISTA D’SOUZA is thinking beyond the LBD and embracing a color-block gown with confidence

    Ballgown wearing. It feels like such a dying art, doesn't it? Thank God, then, for the red-carpet event – the one instance when you can really go for it, push the envelope a little on the dressing-up front, the way you can't really do in 'real life'. And don't worry about looking like an award nominee; it is actually rude not to make an over-the-top effort – that would be like going to a fancy-dress party in your regular clothes.

    So why then, whenever I get invited to one of these things, as I did last week, do I always end up wearing the same old, fail-safe, little black dress? Don't get me wrong, black is great. The security it confers is almost armor-like, and the
