• Beauty: urban cool
If you’re spending summer in the city, our eight fail-safe rules for defying the heat will keep you looking fresh. By EVIE LEATHAM

We can’t all escape the city for fresh ocean views. But we can find respite in a clever edit of smart beauty products that mitigate the effects of the heat, to keep you looking flawless and feeling cool.

    1 THE GRADUAL TANNER
The secret to looking polished despite all-pervading city heat is a bronzed complexion – a subtle camouflage for hot, flushed skin. Happily, new-generation gradual tanners include skincare benefits, too, so a little golden color doesn’t mean compromising on

skin-feeding ingredients. Use the built-in brush to apply James Read BB Gradual Face Tan Light for a subtle, flattering shade.

    2 THE SKIN REFINER
Warm weather often leads to enlarged pores as heat prompts an increase in skin’s oil production. Perricone MD Intensive Pore Minimizer contains salicylic acid, which helps prevent clogged pores (particularly in the city, where the air carries microscopic dirt that sticks to clammy skin) and Alpha Lipoic Acid to refine and improve skin’s texture. Sweep all over after cleansing, paying close attention to your T-zone.

    3 THE LIGHTER BASE
A change in seasons calls for a change in base. Swap heavy foundations for moisturizers with a hint of color. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer blends seamlessly and has SPF20, plus UVA and UVB protection. If you can’t forgo foundation, opt for oil-free, such as Chantecaille Future Skin Oil Free
