    New York:

    Beauty editor,
    The Cut

In New York, most people spend their days at the office and forget to shield their skin, despite UVA (the aging sun rays) penetrating both glass and cloud. Free-radical protection mitigates this – I use antioxidant-packed Daily Serum by Joanna Vargas, one of New York’s best facialists, followed by her Daily Hydrating Cream. I always wear a hat outside and use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreen SPF50+ or Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Lotion SPF38, which absorbs without leaving a white residue.

I’m a high-factor girl. With the wealth of evidence that lands on my desk, I can’t justify spending

time in the sun, especially in Dubai where August temperatures can soar as high as 41°C. Chanel’s UV Essentiel Complete Sunscreen SPF50 can be applied under or over makeup and I’ve recently been introduced to Crème de la Mer’s new Reparative Body Sun Lotion SPF30 – its extra moisture diminishes the drying effects of desert air. Sun exposure causes skin inflammation and exacerbates aging, so I use Radical Skincare Peptide Infused Antioxidant Serum against free radicals.

As un-beauty editor as it sounds, I feel best with a healthy glow, albeit fake. During the summer months I usually work up a base tan with James Read Gradual Tan and opt for a good sunscreen like Hampton Sun SPF30 Continuous Mist Sunscreen. I’m half Japanese and prone to pigmentation, so I’ve been trialing Lancôme DreamTone

Ultimate Dark Spot Corrector, out in September, which has a visible brightening effect. I layer it beneath Sisley All Day All Year, which has time-release technology for UV protection throughout the day. If I’m not getting enough sun and thus not enough Vitamin D, I supplement with BetterYou’s DLux 3000 Spray, a liquid that is more readily absorbed than tablets.

‘Hot’ in Moscow is a mere 19°C, so I’m not too fanatical about protection. In May, I start taking Oenobiol Solaire Supplements, a combination of tomato lycopene and natural carotenes, which boosts skin’s natural UVA and UVB defenses. On vacation I switch to Lancaster’s sun protection range, but I also swear by no-frills Bepanthen and Panthenol creams – available in most pharmacies, they are deeply moisturizing and make great after-suns.
