Lily Donaldson in jacket by Givenchy
"Throw a leather jacket over a chiffon print dress."
"Chunky boots add a cool, modern edge."
"A sultry berry-red lip makes the perfect finish."
The moment Hedi Slimane sent oversized knits, ripped tights and embellished military boots down the fall runway at Saint Laurent, we knew ’90s grunge was back and big. Echoed throughout countless collections, hit pieces included luxe plaid shirts at R13, whimsical chiffon dresses at Red Valentino and a Roberto Cavalli red shearling coat, bestowing a rock star-ready edge. Fresh life – and a hit of glamor – was breathed into the look at Givenchy with Riccardo Tisci’s floral-print biker jacket.
Our cover girl, British supermodel Lily Donaldson – insouciant as ever in an Altuzarra parka teamed with a delicate silk chemise – shows us how to carry off the trend with attitude. And this week’s interviewee, former wild child Amanda de Cadenet (she who
interviewed Nirvana for their first UK live TV performance), talks about her new hit show, The Conversation. Wearing a Preen by Thornton Bregazzi dress and those coveted Saint Laurent biker boots, she perfectly demonstrates how to do glam grunge at any age.
