“Try colorful frames for an easy summer update.”
“Wear this versatile printed dress on a chic city break or to the beach bar.”
“A glamorous sunhat is a vacation essential.”
When it comes to the word ‘feminine’, I’d like to politely disagree with the dictionary, which describes it as “having qualities traditionally ascribed to women, such as sensitivity or gentleness”. Well, perhaps it’s not so much that I disagree, more that I believe a great many more qualities should be associated with the female gender. How about strong? Bold? Powerful? These concepts are not at odds with sensitivity and gentleness; in fact, together, they make for a far more effective, rounded reality.
Our cover star, Cameron Russell, challenged such preconceptions with her TED talk, Looks aren’t everything. Believe me, I’m a model. It’s an issue that affects us all, whether you label yourself a feminist
or not. She talks to Amanda de Cadenet about beauty and diversity in the modeling industry on page 10, and models the season’s exotic florals. Beautiful, intoxicating and uplifting, they encapsulate femininity far better than any dictionary definition.
