    Lodge

    Cayo District, Belize

In the 1980s, film director Francis Ford Coppola acquired a wild corner of Belize, where waterfalls cascade, rivers run fast and the steaming jungle hums with life. An isolated place dominated by Mayan culture, Blancaneaux is a window onto the area’s atmospheric ruins and lush tropics. Being a Coppola hotel, there is, of course, an excellent Italian restaurant.
Insider tip: Stay in the Enchanted Cottage, which looks out to the distant mountain peaks. From BZD812; coppolaresorts.com

    The Priest’s House at Sissinghurst

    Kent, England

Experience the meditatively serene gardens of Sissinghurst Castle in blissful solitude by checking into the Priest’s House. Hovering on the edge of the castle’s White Garden – a romantic composition of white flowers, designed by writer Vita Sackville-West – the house exudes period beauty, with traditional beams and inglenook fireplaces.
Insider tip: The White Garden was designed to be seen by moonlight, so stay during a full moon. From £679; nationaltrustcottages.co.uk
