The ’70s influence in the new collections and this issue of The EDIT is obvious, and it is no coincidence that some of fashion’s most inspiring female figures hit their style stride in that most decadent of decades. All of us, no matter what our personal style, can find a fashion heroine in that era, designers included. But in fact, the retro references are not the key points to take away. Yes, the textures are important – velvet, denim, corduroy, shearling – and the signature pieces – a floppy hat, a knee-high leather boot – add a certain rock’n’roll attitude, but what you need to know is that the shapes at play here are in sync with women’s bodies. Flares, for example – a visual illusion that slims and lengthens you. Even that long, dangling necklace plays a part in enhancing your cleavage. So
revel in the soft fabrics; the heels that are sexy and wearable; the peasant blouses that alleviate a little pressure from your waistline, and realize that the new luxe is in feeling good about yourself.
