1. Make the numbers add up
Protecting your skin is a numbers game. UVA causes aging and UVB burns skin, so safeguarding against both is the only smart choice. “Broad spectrum SPF 50 shields skin from 98 percent of UVB rays and at least a third of UVA rays,” explains dermatologist Dr Marko Lens, “yet the higher factor can leave you sticky and chalky looking.” Opt for a minimum of SPF 30, like Zelens Daily Defence Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30, or look for products with the Japanese protection rating PA+.
“The measurement PA+ is equivalent to up to four hours of UVA protection, whereas PA+++ offers eight hours protection,” explains Mouna Ghoul, Scientific Communications Manager at Japan-based brand Shiseido. Try Lancôme City Miracle CC Cream SPF 50/PA+++, which also contains a skin-brightening tint.
