A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
The defining mood of the FW21 collections was undeniable – a sense of optimism, hope and joie de vivre reigned supreme. The message from the runway was clear: while lockdown dressing was synonymous with sweat sets and pajamas, moving forward, the emphasis is on designs that put fun and flamboyance squarely at the forefront. We saw riotous colors, textures and silhouettes from designers across the board, all of whom made a very convincing case for the mood-boosting power of fashion.
In fact, this new mood is so pervasive that even the most ardent minimalists have been enchanted by it. Case in point? NET-A-PORTER fashion assistant Annie Hertikova. A life-long fan of understated tailoring, particularly cast in classic shades such as black and navy, lately she has found herself flirting with more playful designs, which is why when a technicolor sweater vest by AGR – a brand that was borne out of creative director Alicia Robinson’s friends requesting bespoke pieces to wear to London’s iconic Notting Hill Carnival – landed on-site this week, she was quick to snap it up.
“Usually, I go for darker colors as the weather gets cooler, but something about this season is making me gravitate towards bright and fun prints. This AGR knit is the perfect piece to bring some joy into my monochromatic winter uniform. I’ll be styling it under a blazer with high-waisted pants and a pair of chunky boots.”
Furthermore, with the world’s first post-pandemic party season approaching, the incentive to dial your look up a notch has never been greater. Saint Laurent’s metallic bodysuit might seem like a bold proposition, but layered under a chic black suit or Wales Bonner’s top-stitch leather skirt, it makes for an effortless addition to your after-dark arsenal.
Of course, the fastest way to add an air of glamour to any outfit is by maximizing on statement accessories. Mateo’s diamond drop earrings and Maria Tash’s floral emerald stud offer instant polish. Similarly, you can always count on footwear connoisseur Manolo Blahnik for covetable shoes – the designer’s now-iconic ‘Maysalebi’ mules are the ultimate investment piece.
