With restrictions across the world constantly in flux, it’s increasingly difficult to commit to either a date or destination for your vacation, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start building the perfect capsule closet for it now. In fact, being prepared for a last-minute getaway is probably your most prudent option. The key to shopping smart for summer is to invest in warm-weather staples that will serve you for seasons to come and make just as much sense in the context of the city as they do on a beach.

Case in point, swimwear expert Melissa Odabash’s bright orange one-piece. Deftly blending classic and contemporary elements, from the front this swimsuit seems understated, but the lace-up detail at the back gives this sports-inflected piece a contemporary and decidedly feminine twist. Of course, it’ll look great when you’re lounging poolside at your favorite hotel; however, until then, with some clever styling, it also makes an enviable addition to your off-duty closet. Pair with Bottega Veneta’s structural denim flares and a pair of this season’s most surprising must-have shoes, platform clogs, for a ’70s-inspired look that taps into SS21’s updated take on bohemia. Double down on the sartorial serotonin by finishing with retro-feel accessories such as tortoiseshell sunglasses and a chunky gold chain.

For senior fashion assistant Kristen Neillie, versatility has always been something she keeps front of mind when adding to her wardrobe, so when Rivet Utility’s effortless jumpsuit landed on NET-A-PORTER this week, she was quick to snap it up.

“I am obsessed with Los Angeles-based brand Rivet Utility, whose mission is to create chic clothes with a focus on sustainability – which it achieves by keeping production and manufacturing local. This conscious ethos is totally in keeping with my shopping philosophy and just one of the reasons I had to have its oatmeal jumpsuit. The lightweight fabric makes it the perfect trans-seasonal piece, ideal for holidaying, but also for putting a chic spin on everyday errands. The neutral hue also makes it the perfect counterpoint to bright accessories and statement jewels. I’ll be styling mine with stacked gold chains and luxe slides – I can’t wait to wear it.”
