On the face of it, Korean and Scandinavian style might seem to sit at polar ends of the spectrum: the former is often hailed as the epitome of pioneering, progressive design, while the latter is revered for its considered classicism. However, it’s these contrasts that interest creative director DoHun Kim and inspired him to merge both aesthetics in the form of cult label Andersson Bell. The result? Endlessly wearable wardrobe staples that combine practicality and polish with urban élan. Take this season’s remastered herringbone blazer. Kim cleverly subverts the preppy connotations of this piece by adding graphic labels and a raw linen trim. Styled over everything from wide-leg pants to mini dresses and trophy knits, this jacket promises to work for any occasion.
Of course, when it comes to sartorial versatility, nothing comes close to a pair of perfectly fitting jeans. Denim is, arguably, the bedrock of any great closet. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t scope to get creative with it. Goldsign’s innovative designs make a valuable addition to any woman’s closet. Which is why, when a brand-new style dropped on NET-A-PORTER this week, senior fashion features editor Gillian Brett was quick to snap them up.
“Jeans are the cornerstone of my fall/winter closet, and there are few silhouettes more flattering than high rise, straight-leg styles, such as these beauties. The faux-leather trim adds a luxe edge, elevating them for evening events (’tis the season, after all), while the piped seams also add polish. I’ll pair mine with a silk blouse and strappy sandals for the perfect office-to-out look, or, for a more low-key outfit, I’ll lean into their Western feel and style them with cowboy boots – a cashmere polo neck or boxy T-shirt will ensure the interpretation isn’t too literal.”
If you’re confident you have the closet foundations covered, look to new-season accessories to elevate your so-called essentials. It goes without saying that, when it comes to handbags, Bottega Veneta’s sought-after designs are top of every discerning dresser’s wish list. Upgrade your footwear arsenal by investing in box-fresh sneakers and FW21’s must-have lug-soled boots. Final flourishes such as statement sunglasses, chain jewels or even a spritz of Byredo’s nuanced scents are sure to make even the most stalwart staples feel like an utterly fresh proposition.
