A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
With the holidays right around the corner, the PORTER fashion editors have begun finalizing their festive wish lists. And one thing that’s immediately obvious upon reviewing the sartorial treats we’re hoping to find under the tree (and planning on gifting ourselves) is that glamour is back on the agenda this year. However, contrary to popular belief, decadent, in-demand pieces aren’t necessarily impractical. In fact, if we’ve learnt one styling lesson from the pandemic, it’s the value of investing in timeless designs that you’ll reach for season after season – and that are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
Versace’s striking satin platforms are a case in point. As soon as these vertiginous heels were debuted on the FW21 runway, they blew up, appearing on Instagram feeds worldwide and living rent-free in the minds of fashion fans across the globe. Needless to say, they’re even better in the flesh: not only do these scene-stealing shoes guarantee maximum impact but, thanks to the super-stacked platform, they’re also surprisingly comfortable. Sure, you’re not going to wear them every day, but you’ll have them on heavy rotation at every wedding and party season. Similarly, Jimmy Choo’s ‘Azia’ stilettos offer a playful heel that would make a valuable addition to any woman’s evening attire, while Parisian label Paco Rabanne’s disco-inspired handbags promise to enliven any outfit, day or night.
Of course, a classic watch, such as Cartier’s classic ‘Ballon Bleu’, is the ultimate investment piece that’s guaranteed to secure a treasured place in your jewelry collection – and wrist – for years to come. That doesn’t mean keeping it tucked away for ‘special occasions’, though: maximize its mileage by styling it with everything from cashmere sweatpants and blue jeans to divine dresses. This party season, we’re pairing a chic timepiece with LA-based label Vince’s slinky silk halter top and a pair of cigarette pants for an understated yet elevated after-dark look.
Elsewhere, a sumptuous coat with round-the-clock appeal was top of shopping assistant Connie Parkinson’s wish list, so she snapped up Anine Bing’s cozy, belted style as soon as it landed on the website. After all, why leave receiving the perfect present down to chance?
“Finding a coat that keeps you warm while elevating your winter style can be difficult,” says Parkinson. “Anine Bing’s ‘Sasha’ coat, made from plush fleece, is timeless and ultra-versatile. This season I’ll style it with my favorite jeans and an oversized sweater for effortless daytime dressing. Then, come evening, I’ll layer it over a satin slip dress and chunky hoop earrings.”
