A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
The quest for the ‘perfect’ pair of jeans is something every ardent fashion fan is familiar with. In many ways, it is paradoxical that this humble closet staple is in fact every woman’s fashion unicorn, but ultimately it comes down to the fact that no piece guarantees as much ROI as great jeans. However, despite the enduring allure of denim, cuts do cycle in and out of style, though it’s worth noting that they always come back around, meaning no pair of jeans will be disposable after a single season. In recent years, the skinny jean has lost the stranglehold it had on our wardrobes, giving way to less restrictive straight-leg styles. However, for FW21, we’ve seen an exciting new shape emerge – the so-called ‘barrel’-cut jean. The sculptural nature of this slightly tapered style means they’re more polished than standard jeans, while the wide-leg cut is super comfortable.
Case in point, Frame’s barrel jeans. Cast in a classic light-blue wash and made from recyclable fibers, they perfectly blend heritage and innovation. Like every pair of wish-list-worthy jeans, they promise to work with everything in your existing closet, from oversized knits and bohemian blouses to tailored separates – not to mention mules, boots and sneakers. The styling possibilities are endless; and, as the seasons change and dressing for increasingly unpredictable weather becomes more challenging, this versatility is more important than ever.
For Hannah Cole, NET-A-PORTER fashion editor, wearability has been front of mind when compiling her new-season closet. Cole’s methodical approach to building out the perfect capsule closet means she steers clear of fashion fads and ‘It’ items, opting instead for timeless essentials that she can wear on repeat. Which is why, when Tibi’s check blazer landed on site this week, it caught her eye.
“Having been on maternity leave for the past year, I’m only now returning to the office and this oversized Tibi blazer is getting me in the back-to-school spirit. This heritage-inspired piece is seasonless in the best possible way – it’s got year-round appeal. Now that fall is looming, I’ll be layering mine over a boyish gray marl sweater and ivory jeans, finishing with loafers for a preppy autumnal look. Come spring, it’s the perfect piece to off-set the simplicity of an LBD and shoulder bag for a playful desk-to-dinner ensemble.”
