We’re going to Ibiza

Loewe captures the carefree Balearic spirit of the White Isle in its second collaboration with legendary boutique Paula’s Ibiza

If you weren’t already counting down the days until you jet off on vacation, then the Loewe + Paula’s Ibiza II collection – an ultra-chic beach-ready capsule that combines vibrant prints with a carefree air – is set to have you crossing off the days on your calendar.

Luxury Spanish label Loewe has become a fashion powerhouse and cult bag generator since Jonathan Anderson took the helm in 2013. But if your trips to Ibiza don’t stretch back more than a couple of decades, then you may not be familiar with Paula’s. The name of both a boutique and its label, it’s the stuff of legend on the island. From the store’s opening in 1972 until 2000 when it closed its doors, it was a hub of bohemia and a must-visit destination for an eclectic mix of travelers and free spirits thanks to its founder, former architect Armin Heinemann. Anderson has a deeply personal connection to the boutique thanks to vivid childhood memories of visiting it, which, combined with a shared passion for impeccable craftsmanship, made Anderson and Heinemann natural partners when it came to creating a vacation-ready capsule.

This collection is the second that the pair have worked on together, and pays homage to Ibiza’s past, present and future, with a seamless blend of the island’s irresistibly laid-back feel and the modern, streamlined aesthetic that is Loewe’s signature. So, depending on your mood and sartorial inclination, you can slip on floaty handkerchief dresses and boyish linen shirts or soft, slouchy t-shirts and rigid denim, all of which will look stylish and sophisticated whether they’re set against a backdrop of unspoiled pine forests and hidden coves or must-visit bars and dancefloors. And because nothing says summer like rainbow brights, they come in glorious technicolor, too. Paula’s was famed for its eye-catching prints, so Anderson has rifled through the label’s archives and handpicked his favorites, from flamboyant painted birds and butterflies to graphic patterns. There’s even a patchwork beach bag in the line-up, conjured from every pattern and motif that caught his eye.

Of course, this being a Loewe capsule, the accessories will play as much of a part in your look as the ready-to-wear. The label’s most-wanted, instantly recognizable bags – the Puzzle, the Hammock, the logo-heavy fringed tote – have been recast in bleached-out pastel shades, all the better to add the requisite luxe sophistication to your most easy-breezy looks.
