Moroccan Magic
Let FAITHFULL THE BRAND transport you to Morocco for FW19, as the vibrant country inspires a collection full of feminine accents and vintage prints
Yves Saint Laurent once said that the cultural city of Marrakech “taught him color”. Now, Faithfull The Brand has followed in his well-heeled footsteps and taken us on a virtual visit to the North African country. Taking inspiration from the color palette of baked earth, olive groves, cactus plants and eucalyptus trees, Faithfull has combined feminine silhouettes with exclusive vintage prints developed specifically for the season.
Jardin Du Maroc is a collection encapsulating ethereal dresses, wide-leg pants, floaty skirts and peasant blouses. It’s your dream vacation wardrobe actualized. But don’t think for a minute that it’s just the designs that are striking; the brand prides itself on its relationships with its producers, ensuring the most beautifully made garments with ethical origins. Founded in Bali in 2012, Faithfull still produce all its pieces in Indonesia, with small, family-run factories. “Utilizing local resources and talent is embedded in the moral compass of Faithfull,” says the label.
Shot on 35mm film to create a hazy, bohemian atmosphere, the brand chose Berber Lodge, a French Moroccan retreat in the countryside, for the FW19 campaign. The result is a veritable feast for the imagination and will have you booking a flight there immediately. Of the inspiration, Faithfull says, “Morocco became a huge creative mecca in the ’60s & ’70s,” and it is that retro era that’s reflected in the hues of the collection.

Standout pieces include the Marta, a wrap midi dress in the brand’s Vionett floral print. The cornflower-blue, peach and lemon-yellow tones are indicative of ’60s Morocco, as are the statement white buttons tracing the front closing. Marjorelle is the classic white dress you’ve been looking for: with a sweet floral print, square neckline and ruched bodice, it would be equally at home on the beach or with an espadrille wedge for the evening. If the ’70s are your style era, the Jamais wrap top and Scelsi cropped pant will be right up your proverbial street. With voluminous frilled sleeves and an oversized tie front, the blouse sits perfectly with the universally flattering high-rise, flared-leg pants. The co-ordinating set is designed for aimlessly wandering vintage markets abroad.
Faithfull the Brand believes that a well-lived life is a well-travelled life, and that’s something we can definitely prescribe to.
