Timeless classics with cult appeal
Jimmy Choo and Off-White have joined forces in the most unexpected and irresistible collaboration of the season
The fashion world thrives on the unpredictable, and nothing came as more of a surprise from the SS18 runways than the capsule footwear collaboration between luxe streetwear brand Off-White and revered shoe design powerhouse Jimmy Choo. Less surprising is the rate in which pre-orders for their astonishing classic-meets-contemporary pieces have been coming in since models Dilone, Kaia Gerber and Naomi Campbell debuted them on the catwalk in Paris.
The labels are natural partners when you consider the inspiration for Off-White’s collection is Diana, Princess of Wales, a woman with a legendary eye for cutting-edge fashion and one of the earliest adopters of Jimmy Choo’s gloriously elegant designs when the label launched. In uniting over their common muse, with Jimmy Choo’s polished timelessness and Off-White’s searingly cool, cult attraction, a singular and exceptional collection is born.
“To collaborate with a brand like Off-White encourages Jimmy Choo to explore a new avenue and take part in a different conversation,” says Sandra Choi, the label’s Creative Director. “It brings another edge to the label that allows people to look at Jimmy Choo from a different perspective.”
Choi met the founder of Off-White, Virgil Abloh, when he was DJing in New York. Both were immediately drawn to work together, and in doing so have supercharged the beautifully crafted shapes that you’d associate with Jimmy Choo with youthful appeal, and more than a hint of Diana-inspired ‘Sloane’. Stiletto pumps in traditional jacquards and chintzy florals flaunt oversized bows, crystal chains, or a PVC wrap; slouching boots are worked up in sumptuous, quilted white leather. The standout pieces? Stiletto-heeled knee-high boots shrouded in a cloud of tulle. Get them while you can.
