All in the detail
AGNONA, the pioneer of Italian craftsmanship, unveils its latest must-have collection for fall/winter ’18
For nearly 70 years, the Agnona name has been synonymous with the ultimate in luxury Italian fashion. This is a brand that takes the phrase ‘attention to detail’ as gospel: it has been at the forefront of producing the finest fabrics for decades, and still crafts every piece in its masterful collections in Italy.
“Thread and fabric” were the foundations of Francesco Ilorini Mo’s company, which he founded in 1953. Taking its name from a village at the foot of Monte Rosa, Agnona became an integral part of Italian fashion history, with Ilorini Mo supplying the most illustrious couture houses in the world with the most sumptuous and exclusive of fabrics. Intrinsic to the brand’s DNA is its artisanal approach to textiles, such as the lightweight, warm and impossibly soft Double Cashmere, as well as the Century Double Face Cashmere, which is one of the most valuable textiles in the world. Fabric crafted from the vicuña, meanwhile, is so exquisite that it was once used exclusively for the garments of royalty.

Now, with new Creative Director Simon Holloway at the helm, the brand is as focused on the styling of its pieces as it is on the fabrics used to craft them. English-born Holloway – who honed his skills at labels including Calvin Klein, Jimmy Choo and Narciso Rodriguez – is building the label around the concepts of modern sportswear, elegant feminine tailoring and timeless layering pieces. This level of quiet luxury, suffused with an understated, everyday vibe, is what makes Agnona such a hit with its impeccably well-dressed fans – a chic group that includes A-list names such as Olivia Palermo, who is regularly seen in Agnona’s signature styles.
So, with the brand going from strength to strength, what’s next? Excitingly, this September, it will become part of the official Milan Fashion Week schedule, signaling a new era and confirming its positioning as a modern power player in the industry.
