In London right now, the hottest ticket in town isn’t a fashion front row or West End show – it’s the Bayeux Tapestry at The British Museum. The landmark exhibition centers around the 70-meter-long embroidered medieval masterpiece, which is one of the world’s most historically significant textiles. The exhibition provided the perfect occasion to come together to celebrate art and fashion. NET-A-PORTER and Erdem gathered a stylish crowd for a private viewing of the historical artefact and an intimate dinner curated by chef Ruthie Rogers, co-founder of London’s iconic Michelin-starred restaurant The River Café. Read on to discover who was there, how the evening unfolded, and the exquisite designs that defined the night.

The dinner setting inside the Nereid Gallery
As one of the medieval world’s greatest treasures, the tapestry is both a crucial historical record and a remarkable piece of art

The what

The evening unfolded within the extraordinary architecture of The British Museum, beginning in the Egyptian Gallery, where guests were greeted among ancient sculptures before moving into the Nereid Gallery for an intimate seated dinner. The majestic 4th-century-BC Nereid Monument was a magnificent backdrop to an event that revolved around history, culture and craftsmanship.

Conversations flowed over a menu curated by Rogers. Guests dined on risotto and Branzino Selvatico, followed by a decadent chocolate, walnut and Vecchia Romagna cake, as they eagerly awaited the main event.

The dialogue between art and fashion continued with an exclusive after-hours viewing of the Bayeux Tapestry, which depicts the events leading up to and including the Battle of Hastings and the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. For Erdem, who is an avid art collector and whose designs are often informed by historical references, the setting held particular resonance. His fall/winter 2026 collection, entitled The Imaginary Conversation, marks the London-based brand’s 20th anniversary, reflecting his incredible archive and conversations with women and art that continues to inspire him.

Adowa Aboah, Greta Bellamacina, Hayley Atwell and Raffey Cassidy

The wear

The style set arrived in their favorite Erdem looks, wearing pieces from the fall/winter 2026 collection and highly anticipated new arrivals. Their outfits captured the opulence and grandeur of the event – from painterly prints and ornate brocades to exquisite lace and cloqué tailoring.

Hayley Atwell stunned in a tweed midi dress, styled with Erdem’s ‘Bloom’ bag, leather opera gloves and ostrich-feather heels for an ultra glamorous and artistic edge. Meanwhile, rising star Raffey Cassidy opted for a chic take on the barn jacket paired with a crisp white shirt and straight-leg jeans.

Greta Bellamacina and Adowa Aboah embraced the season’s trend for lace and lingerie-inspired dressing. Bellamacina’s panier-shaped gown, from Erdem’s spring/summer 2027 runway, felt especially fitting in the museum’s historical surroundings, while Aboah’s slinky slip dress with silver embellishments delivered effortless evening elegance.
