Rag & Bone’s debut sunglasses collection
The American label has enlisted Kate Bosworth and her husband Michael Polish to star in – and shoot – the new campaign
The relationship between actress Kate Bosworth and American label Rag & Bone stretches back over a decade. “I met Marcus Wainwright, the founder of Rag & Bone 10 years ago when I was shooting the cover of Vogue,” says Bosworth. “The concept was for me to meet and be photographed with the rising stars in fashion, and Rag & Bone was one of the labels chosen for the story. I met Marcus as he was cutting a pair of jeans in what was probably their first studio in NYC. I loved his attention to detail, that his cut was the best and what the feeling was behind the design. He still has an intense attention to detail that I believe is important to success.”
Since then, Bosworth has worn the label countless times, both on and off the red carpet, and the label has grown from strength to strength. Founded by Wainwright in 2002, Rag & Bone has made its name riffing on traditional British tailoring and combing it with a cool New York sensibility. Impeccable craftsmanship is at the heart of everything the label offers up, and that includes its debut collection of sunglasses and eyewear. Each of the shapes blends innovative design and thoughtful functionality with an irresistible flair and luxury. And, following neatly in the label’s habit of asking its muses to photograph themselves for its campaigns, it made sense for Bosworth, along with her husband, director Michael Polish, to act as the face of the collection.
“I love the shape, how they feel on the face, the balanced combination of classic and innovation. And they are just really well designed.

“It was a truly organic collaboration,” explains Bosworth. “Perhaps it was our – me, Marcus, and Michael’s – love of Leica, actually? Marcus started a dialogue with Michael over Instagram through their shared love of photography and, particularly, Leica cameras. We then decided to explore the interchangeable idea of the modern artist and muse relationship.” The resulting photographs of the couple are dreamy, authentic and deeply personal. “We shot them at home with our cats running around,” says Bosworth. “Rag & Bone literally sent us a box of clothes, a bunch of glasses and said, ‘Can’t wait to see what you guys do!’”
It’s the glasses that are the scene-stealers, though – each pair a reinvented and reimagined take on a classic shape, from the aviator to the cat’s-eye, and created in partnership with Italian eyewear expert, Safilo. There’s the unmistakable masculine-cool of the shield-like D-frames in tortoiseshell, at once statement-making and enduringly stylish; the metal-framed aviators with their ’70s feel and sleek, streamlined shape; the effortless chic and angular shape of the acetate-trimmed cat’s-eye shades; and the vintage-meets-modern appeal of the pilot-shaped sunglasses in quietly classic tortoiseshell.
Whether you’re pairing them with jeans, your favorite summer dress or swimwear, these are sunglasses that you’ll want to reach for all season long and beyond. “I love the shape, how they feel on the face, the balanced combination of classic and innovation,” says Bosworth. “And they are just really well designed.” We couldn’t agree more.
