Shop high/low dressing with a fashion editor

The PORTER fashion editors each have their own personal style. Some love bold and bright colors; others prefer to keep their palette on the dark side. Then there are those who indulge in graphic prints and others who pick florals time and time again. Each week, get to know the team’s tastes and style tips as they reveal what’s on their wish list this season and how they’ll be wearing their favorite pieces. Today, Digital Fashion Market Editor HANNAH COLE divulges her most-wanted pieces and why…

STYLE RÉSUMÉ

My personal style in three words… Totally mood dependent. I never know what I want to wear until I put it on.

My style muses are… The Olsen twins, for their signature mix-and-match style and love of all things oversized. They are the ultimate high/low icons.

My repeat buy item is… Amazing outerwear. It doesn’t matter what you have on underneath – a standout coat or jacket can disguise any lazy outfit.

The item I can’t live without is… An oversized, plain white T-shirt. My quest to find the perfect one is endless and I wear them with everything; denim or tailoring, day or night.

My favorite piece in my closet is… A black jacquard tuxedo coat by The Row. It’s the most expensive thing I’ve ever bought but worth every penny because of how I feel in it.

My secret style tip is… Fashion is about following trends, but true style is finding what works for you and sticking with it.

If I could only wear one designer it would be… The Row

You will never catch me wearing… Neon, pastels or leggings.

My wish list

“Having just spent a year on maternity leave, I’ve lived in a basic daily uniform of jeans and a sweatshirt. Returning to work, I’m not quite ready to let go of that comfort, so my wish list is filled with pieces that will elevate my existing wardrobe. High up on my list is a classic trench coat; it’s the perfect cover-up for unpredictable spring weather. I’ll be pairing Calvin Klein’s version with a pair of drop earrings for a ladylike twist. I’m also loving selvedge denim at the moment; these jeans by The Row will be a versatile addition to my wardrobe and I’ll be looking for a matching denim jacket to layer under the trench.”

There was a lot of corset detailing at the FW18 shows. I’m getting involved with the trend early and will dress down this Alexander Wang top with denim for day.
I try to invest in a few key pieces that will work double time. This season, I’ll be layering a dress over jeans and will remove the jeans once the weather warms up.
Tailored pants are the perfect foundation to elevate more casual pieces. I’ll add sneakers or heeled pumps depending on the occasion.
