Shop dramatic minimalism with a fashion editor
The PORTER fashion editors each have their own personal style. Some love bold and bright colors; others prefer to keep their palette on the dark side. Then there are those who indulge in graphic prints and others who pick florals time and time again. Each week, get to know the team’s tastes and style tips as they reveal what’s on their wish list this season and how they’ll be wearing their favorite pieces. Today, Fashion Features Director Kay Barron divulges her most wanted of the season and why…
STYLE RÉSUME
My look in three words… Black with everything
My style muse is… Winona Ryder throughout the ’90s, simply for being the coolest girl ever
My repeat-buy item is… High-waisted jeans
The item I can’t live without is… Black polonecks
My favorite piece in my closet is… A Prada military jacket
My secret style tip is… Wear things that make you feel brilliant all the time – never save any clothes for the ‘right occasion’
If I could only wear one designer it would be… Haider Ackermann because it’s severe and sexy at the same time
You will never catch me wearing… Pastels – I’m pale and they make me look even paler
My wish list
“This season is very monochromatic, which fits my aesthetic perfectly. I love simple shapes with interesting details and narrow silhouettes with a bit of a surprise element. This month, my wish list is awash with black-and-white striped pieces, for both day and night; boots that will transition perfectly from London’s cold February days into the (hopefully) warmer days of March; and all the patent I can get my hands on.”
“I live in polonecks as they elongate my little frame. Calvin Klein makes the best ones: they never lose their shape – I hate a saggy neck – and work equally well on their own or under bigger sweaters.
”
“I love a red heel set against an all-black outfit – it draws the attention from top to toe, especially when balanced with a bright red lip.
”
“I’m quite obsessed with black vinyl this spring, in pants and outerwear. It adds a brilliantly perverse element to the most basic of shapes.
