Shine Bright Like A Diamond
BOGHOSSIAN’s cutting-edge Merveilles collection is here to elevate your everyday and evening style
“Designing jewelry is like painting with light,” says Albert Boghossian, CEO of innovative jewelry house Boghossian. Founded in 1868 by Ovaness Boghossian, the family-run business has six generations of experience and more than a century of skill in precious stones and high fine jewelry. The breadth of the family’s expertise is unmistakable in the boundary-pushing techniques they have pioneered to create high fine jewelry that is both elegant and modern, yet steeped in craftmanship and antiquity.
“Since gold interferes with light reflection, we work hard to find the new ways of holding the stones together with minimal intervention from the precious metal,” says Albert. With this in mind, one of the house’s latest inventions is the revolutionary Merveilles collection, named after the avant-garde new stone-setting technique it employs, which took four years to perfect. In line with the house’s pioneering spirit, Merveilles is pure alchemy: the four-sided gem-setting method means that the stones themselves hold each other in place. Using a minimum amount of gold, the gemstones are unbound and can create an “uninterrupted flow of light from one gem to the next, enhancing and magnifying their brightness,” explains Albert. The diamonds sit side by side like iridescent droplets, resulting in a truly dazzling effect.
Boghossian is also known for its colored stone expertise, so it comes as no surprise that one of the standout pieces in the Merveilles collection is a pair of vibrant blue sapphire drop earrings. The 18-karat white-gold earrings are encrusted with 140 round-shaped sapphires that cascade into tapered points, beautifully framing the face. Such a statement piece is perfect for maximalists and minimalists alike – go bold and wear them with this season’s extravagant puff sleeves or richly printed ’80s cocktail dresses, or wear them to elevate a more pared-back outfit. Brides-to-be take note: the earrings would also make for a special ‘something blue’ to offset your reception gown.
For those who love diamonds, the Halo hoop earrings are the epitome of a forever piece: 196 diamonds, set in 18-karat white gold, twinkle beautifully as they catch the light. Emphasize their brilliance by pairing them with a dress swathed in sequins, or wear them as the perfect finishing touch to this season’s sensual sheer fabrics and extravagant feathered pieces. When an invitation calls for something truly show-stopping, dial up the glamour and match them with the 18-karat white-gold eternity diamond ring.
For pieces to inject day and evening wear with a touch of opulence, look to Boghossian’s beautiful Icicle styles. Available as divine earrings, a dazzling sautoir necklace and a chic bracelet, the falling silhouette of the Icicle is both understated and ornate. The long necklace will complement plunging blouses and dresses, while the earrings nicely offset high necklines – try a Victorian blouse for formal events or a cashmere turtleneck for more lowkey gatherings. These are the type of versatile and sophisticated pieces that lend a confidence to your on- and off-duty style; the Icicle bracelet will look just as resplendent with a neatly tailored suit in the boardroom as it will with a silk blouse and jeans at the weekend.
Drawing on their many travels and international heritage, the Boghossian family espouse Eastern and Western inspirations to create high fine jewelry pieces that bridge the gap between timeless style and breath-taking originality, and we just can’t get enough of it.
