“My personal style is a balance of elegance and ease, with a focus on modesty,” says Hanan Houachmi. “During Ramadan, I look for outfits that are refined, effortless and comfortable. I love flowing silhouettes, intricate details and luxurious fabrics like silk or organza, that elevate the look while maintaining a sense of ease. Versatility is important, too, as I want to feel comfortable moving from Iftar gatherings to late-night prayers.
“Modest dressing is all about balance – choosing silhouettes that are fluid yet structured, layering in an intentional way, and playing with textures and proportions to create interest. Investing in timeless, high-quality pieces that can be styled in multiple ways is key. I also believe in letting the fabric and tailoring do the work. Modesty doesn’t mean sacrificing elegance, and sometimes the simplest looks can be the most impactful.
“I naturally gravitate towards soft neutrals, especially ivory and cream, but for Ramadan, I also love incorporating rich tones like deep burgundy, olive green or midnight blue. Gold or pearl accents always feel festive without being overpowering. Silhouette-wise, I adore structured kaftans, fluid abayas, and tailored pieces that have an effortless yet polished feel. Delicate embellishments, pleats and subtle draping always catch my eye.
“Right now, I’m drawn to The Row for its timeless elegance, Toteme for its effortless minimalism, and Khaite for its modern femininity. I also appreciate Tove for sophisticated yet wearable designs. For eveningwear, I love Elie Saab’s ethereal pieces and Taller Marmo’s beautifully draped kaftans.
“My favorite part of Ramadan is the sense of reflection and togetherness it brings. It’s a time when everything slows down, allowing for deeper connections with family, faith and community. I love the tradition of gathering for Iftar, especially when it’s shared with loved ones. The moments before breaking fast, filled with anticipation and gratitude, are incredibly special. I also cherish the quiet, peaceful nights spent in prayer and self-reflection.”

“I would describe my style as bold, extra, modern and, of course, modest. For social events during Ramadan, I lean more towards abayas or kaftans by Arab designers, as they’re so creative. And to respect the beauty of this holy month, I tend to wear loose and flowy designs.
“My top tips for modest dressing are layering and oversizing. It’s been my trick for years for looking modest yet on-trend and stylish. To add a touch of femininity, I love to wear pointy heels.
“I’m drawn to earthy tones, but it’s nice to get outside my comfort zone once in a while and wear more color. I also love anything with shape and volume. The brands that I always find myself checking out on NET-A-PORTER are Loewe, Zimmermann, Jacquemus and Saint Laurent.
“I’ve always loved a chunky cuff and plan to add more by Saint Laurent to my collection. Chloé’s iconic chain belt is also on my wish list, as it will complement many of my Ramadan kaftans. I also recently got the Loewe bracelet pouch and I’m excited to style it with my looks.
“My favorite part of Ramadan is probably the first day, as the whole family gathers at my house; I love being the one who gets everyone together… And of course, the spiritual feeling you get during this month is unmatched. I love to embrace it all and take my time to enjoy it.”
