5 ways to refresh your wardrobe

Fashion

The new season is upon us, which means there is a bountiful array of new collections to pore over. But what should you snap up and what’s more heart than head? The smart way to tackle this is to break the new offerings down and invest in a peppering of new pieces; ones that will slip into your existing closet with ease and that can be styled in multiple ways. These are the five fashion winners that will fast-track your look into SS18…

THE PUFF-SLEEVED BLOUSE
There’s a pleasing ’80s vibe about the voluminous proportions of this blouse, as championed by the likes of Stella McCartney and Isabel Marant. The best are demure as well as outsized, which makes them ultra-versatile; pair with high-waisted pants for work and a mini-skirt in your downtime. If you need to layer for body warmth, make sure you do it underneath – it would be a crime to squash those sleeves.
THE PASTEL SUIT
Easy tailoring just as we like it – although, if you’re really feeling adventurous, you can swap your usual pants for shorts – but whipped up in pretty, fondant-fancy shades. Buy a two-piece and wear it with a white tank, then separate out the jacket to style over floral dresses and crisp cotton separates.
THE RAINCOAT
Don’t you love a fashion piece that combines the thrill of the new with an element of down-to-earth practicality? Step forward the humble plastic raincoat, elevated this season by everyone from Calvin Klein to Ellery into a statement-making, technicolor piece of must-have outerwear, ripe for layering over every single look you own.
THE STATEMENT EARRINGS
These are an easy win when it comes to updating your look. Track down the biggest and brightest pair of earrings that you can find (Saint Laurent and Off-White have you covered there) and put them on. That’s it. Don’t save them for after-dark; they’re at their best paired with your most low-key outfits. And take note: after seasons of mix-and-match, this spring we’re back to wearing them in pairs.
THE PENCIL SKIRT
Other labels have conjured them this season, but Balenciaga deserves full credit for propelling this boardroom staple onto the fashion radar. Choose a skirt in heritage checks and wear with bright throwback knits for a vintage vibe, or pair with deconstructed tailoring and oversized shirts to channel your inner Working Girl with a modern spin.
