Last night Chopard hosted the annual ‘Gentlemen’s Evening’ at the Hotel Martinez, Cannes, bringing the phrase ‘beautiful people’ to a whole new rooftop level. With one of the first sunny days of this year’s festival drawing to a close the mood was exuberant, a carefree vibe heighted by the cabana-style décor of the terrace, with directors, actors, models and designers lounging on bamboo furnishings and weaving through exotic foliage to make it to the dancefloor. Colin and Livia Firth were two of the first party-goers through the door, with the actor spending much of the evening in an animated conversation with his Love Actually and Nanny McPhee co-star Thomas Brodie-Sangster. After making their Cannes red-carpet debut earlier that evening at Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood screening, Brooklyn Beckham and girlfriend Hana Cross were spotted hanging out in the smoking area, with Beckham’s film camera slung across his shoulder. Model and now entrepreneur Karolina Kurková (she has just launched a beauty and wellness line for children and adults called Gryph & IvyRose), looking stunning in a white tuxedo-style jumpsuit by Etro and sapphire and diamond earrings by Chopard, headed straight onto the dance floor, taking the party up a notch (or ten). However, it was when Italian musicians Alessandro Ristori & The Portofinos – complete with handlebar moustaches, suitably ’70s garb and a set list that included everything from Frank Sinatra to Elvis and Barry Manilow – stepped on stage that the celebrations really got rowdy. The British contingent, headed up by actors, Luke Pasqualino, Bradley James and dancer Eric Underwood, had just finished an epic roadtrip from Goodwood to Cannes and were dominating the dancefloor, closely followed by fashion editor Camille Charrière, who admired not just Ristori’s Mick Jagger-inspired moves, but also his Gucci outfit. Inside, French actor Gilles Lellouche was holding court while British singer Pixie Lott and her model fiancé Oliver Cheshire propped up the bar. The party was in full swing well into the early hours, but guests in search of a nightcap strolled down Promenade de la Croisette to Tarantino’s after-party at Le Club by Albane – an all-night affair…
