    I’M HONORED TO BE A WOMAN
    and to be Director Asia. There’s always talk about it being a white male-dominated world, but if you look at Asian gallery owners, curators and museum directors, so many of them are power women.


    I live out of suitcaseS, so I
    shop for practical pieces in fabrics that don’t crease. I want the best of everything; that one dress that makes me feel like a million dollars so I don’t have to work too hard.

    As Director Asia of Art Basel Hong Kong, Ooi exposes the best of Asian art to a worldwide audience.


    THE WHOLE OF THE ART WORLD
    is changing, but in Asia everything has happened so rapidly. When I started out the scene was slow; now there are many possibilities. But [the Asian art world is] this creature that’s pumped up with steroids when the vertebrae hasn’t quite formed – you need to grow the flesh as well as the foundation.


    HONG KONG IS A MELTING POT,
    the best of East and West, and the art scene reflects that: there are international galleries like White Cube and Gagosian, and also home-grown galleries like Hanart TZ and Pearl Lam. It’s difficult to define, and I really like that.


    ASIA’S ART SCENES ARE ALL AT
