ALL-WHITE EVERYTHING

“The first look I ever wore to fashion week was white from head to toe. I think people underestimate how easy it is; when you’re wearing all white, you can be really experimental with volume, shape and texture – you can play. You could add a pop of color with an accessory, but this season it feels more interesting to go with brown or terracotta – natural hues that will warm your look up and make it feel a bit nostalgic. White and tan always works – it’s the picture of sophistication.”

COLOR CODES

“A statement piece like a big knit, coat or jacket is the easiest way to incorporate bright color into your wardrobe, because you can just team it with your basics and it updates your look. If I’m wearing color head to toe, though, I prefer to color-block with clothes that are from the same tonal family rather than clash completely different shades. Stick to structured cuts without too many details, so as not to distract from the color itself.”

THE NEW UTILITY

“Everyone should have one or two pieces in their wardrobe that they can just put on and not think about, whether it’s a utilitarian jumpsuit or an elegant but practical trench coat. Jumpsuits are so comfortable and can be adapted to suit most occasions; whether you keep them looking very casual and wear them with sneakers for day, or make them more feminine with a pair of mules for night.”

REMIXED PRINTS

“I love wearing classic prints like stripes, plaid and gingham together – just make sure that the patterns are different enough that they really stand out from each other. Polka dots and stripes are really easy to mix; they look great worn together and often they’re in the same black and white or blue and white, which makes them easier to pair. Blazers are my everyday staple; I have them in every color and shape because they’re a nice way to structure your look and you can throw one over anything.”

LAVENDER HAZE

“There has been a lot of pink around recently, but lilac is the color of SS18. It feels sophisticated and grown-up, and it’s a great color for spring and summer. I never like looking too girly, so I’d choose pieces that are loose and flowing with an element of boyishness. Color-blocking is a really great way of standing out, and it’s often easier than mixing lots of colors together.”

FRESH FLOWERS

“I like to make my florals feel a little androgynous, so I look for prints that are in a darker hue or on a simply shaped piece – a long-sleeved, low-cut dress, say, rather than something frilly. I always add a pair of sneakers or boots and a leather jacket or an oversized knit – something to counter that feminine edge.”
