Chriselle Lim’s AM/PM routine

The Korean-American fashion consultant and mother-of-two divulges every detail of her daily routine – from her ten-step K-beauty skincare regime to her five-minute makeup ritual

Beauty

IN THE MORNING

I don’t wash my face…

…to retain my natural oils. Instead, I use water and then apply Dr Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum and my own ‘blood cream’ [Lim worked with Dr Sturm to enhance a base moisturizer with Lim’s own blood, designed to signal to the body to go into repair mode and produce extra collagen] – this was amazing during my [second] pregnancy as my hormones and blood levels were richer. Then I follow with her Sun Drops SPF50 and finish with Tata Harper Beautifying Face Oil.

My beauty routine has changed…

…since becoming a mom; I spend a lot more time taking care of my skin and a lot less time putting makeup on. Being a mom to two young children [Chloe and Colette] means I only take three to five minutes to do my makeup each morning. I keep it simple with Charlotte Tilbury Brightening Youth Glow, a light BB cream with SPF, multitasking products that I can dab on quickly with fingers for cheeks and lips, and always a coat of the super-intense Tom Ford Spike Lash Mascara.

Everyone needs to sweat…

…it’s unglamorous, but a great way to detox and energize the mind and body. I go to a sauna or the Shape House in LA. You lie in an infrared bed and sweat out all the toxins for an hour while watching Netflix, then drink a ton of water. I stopped going while I was pregnant, but before I’d go at least once a week.

My number one beauty tip for mothers-to-be is…

…to find a system that works for you, and don’t neglect your skincare routine. It’s one of the only times you truly take for yourself. Having a child is the most enjoyable but challenging time, and stress or exhaustion really shows on your skin. Even a 10-minute sheet mask while the baby naps makes a difference. I love the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask for when I’m catching up on emails; it’s so nourishing that it feels like I can skip the rest of my skincare for that day.

IN THE EVENING

Sleep is my cure to jet-lag…

…I travel a lot for work and I’ve found that my jet-lag isn’t so bad when I book an overnight flight and sleep on the plane. I also try to sleep as soon as I check in as this totally resets my body clock. If that fails, I’ll go and do an intense run on the treadmill.

K-beauty is a huge part of me…

…My favorite DIY recipe that I learned from my mother is a skin-brightening soju [Korean rice wine] toner. All you need is half a cup of soju, the juice from one lemon and half a cup of glycerin mixed in a zip-lock bag. Fill the bag with cotton balls, remove all the air and refrigerate it for a month. Yes, it’s a long time but it gives unbelievable results. Use it every morning and night as a toner; I promise your skin will be instantly tighter, brighter and pores will appear smaller.

I have a ten-step evening skincare routine…

…which starts with a double cleanse using Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser, then a cleansing gel. Afterwards, I apply a cream mask with a hydrating sheet mask on top so that everything really soaks into the skin. I follow with the iS Clinical Active Serum, which is literally the best product on earth for breakouts and smoothing out wrinkles; then it’s a brightening toner, Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate, hyaluronic acid serum, and finally the Dr Barbara Sturm blood cream and face oil.

I foam-roll and stretch every night…

…it’s great for aching muscles and joints and easy to fit into your day; I do it in front of the television. I also meditate or read to wind down. Currently, I’m listening to the Affirmation Pod, a simple guided meditation podcast, and reading The Postnatal Depletion Cure by Dr Oscar Serrallach, which teaches you to reclaim and rebuild your health and energy after giving birth.
