Pernille Teisbaek Shares The Skincare, Hair And Wellness Hacks She Swears By
As a style icon, creative consultant and mother of four, Danish influencer PERNILLE TEISBAEK is well-versed in the art of multitasking. Here, she tells MALENA HARBERS about the essentials for her highly curated, minimalist skin and makeup routine, her two-minute party-hair hack, and the one product she never goes without
I always start my day with a big glass of water…
…then I get the kids up and going. There’s breakfast, backpacks, the usual morning madness that happens. After that, my husband makes me a morning coffee, which is one of those small daily luxuries I really love.
I’ve streamlined my beauty routine to take just five minutes
Time is a scarce resource with four children under the age of 10! Multitasking products are key. I stick to tinted moisturizers with SPF and a cream blush that doubles as lipstick, and I wear my hair tied in a bun with my bangs pinned back with a bobby pin. Most days I walk around the house in the same cozy outfits, wearing very minimal makeup, if any, but when I do go out – whether it’s to pick up the kids from school, run errands or for dinner – I love to style a good outfit. It gives me so much energy to get creative. I think a good mood and good energy can make anyone look so beautiful. Dress for your mood and be authentic – that’s my tip for a sustainable, everyday beauty routine.
Hydration and an SPF50 make the biggest difference to how my skin looks and feels
Drinking plenty of water, using a humidifier at night, and sealing in moisture with the right products all make a huge difference to the state of my skin. And honestly, consistency really is everything. In the morning, I start with a gentle cleanser, then go in with a vitamin C serum and a peptide or hydrating serum layered on top. I follow with a moisturizer (sometimes mixed with a drop of oil) and always SPF – rain or shine. If I’m filming or shooting, I’ll also use a primer to help makeup sit better. At night, if I’m wearing makeup, I double cleanse, then I apply a retinoid or gentle acid, followed by a thick moisturizer and sometimes a sleeping mask. If I have time, I’ll use a gua sha.
Having turned 40 last year…
…I’m much more focused on barrier repair and collagen support, so I concentrate on peptides, ceramides and red light therapy. I love my LED mask for boosting collagen and calming inflammation. I’m also more protective of my skin barrier, which means I do less exfoliation and add more nourishment. I’m really lucky I don’t have to deal with a lot of breakouts but if I do experience one, I can’t leave it alone – definitely not the best advice! When my skin is dehydrated, I love using hydrating serums layered under a thick occlusive cream or mask. I’ll sometimes sleep in a hydrating mask if my skin really needs it.
I love to see Melanie Grant for facials…
…when I’m either in London or in Paris. She gives the best facials I’ve ever had.
On a bad face day…
…I do a cold plunge, but for my face only. I haven’t been able to do cold plunges for my whole body yet – it’s too cold! Or I will make sure to get as much fresh air as possible, which I think really helps with depuffing my face. Also, I get lots of hydration and wear slicked-back hair and big sunglasses.
I really like to wear minimal makeup
My signature makeup look is dewy skin, brushed-up brows, a touch of Rhode Pocket Blush and a little mascara. It’s quick, flattering and fresh-looking.
I always let my hair air-dry…
…and I use different serums for my scalp to keep it healthy. When I wash my hair, I love using a good hair oil afterwards to maintain shine.
I never travel without my favorite body oil
I swear by the one from [Danish beauty brand] Honey, as it hydrates and dries so quickly. Also, if I’m traveling, I always try to adapt to the timezone I’m in as fast as possible. If that means staying awake multiple hours in a row, or the other way around, then so be it. The sooner you can adapt your body and mind, the sooner you’ll feel better.
I love reformer Pilates
The combination of strength, stretching and mobility is really good. I always feel so energized after a workout. I also do EMS [electromagnetic stimulation] training.
Balance is key when it comes to my diet
I don’t follow strict rules. That being said, I try to avoid ultra-processed foods and too much refined sugar – but living in a household with four children, that’s a challenge. I like starting my morning with a coffee and then I usually eat granola with lots of seeds and nuts and whole milk. If not that, I really love eggs. I always take my vitamins, too, which is either a powder or a mix of vitamins C and D and fish oil.
If I have a shoot or big event…
…I give myself a face massage the night before, apply a hair mask, indulge in a little exfoliation, and drink tons of water. I’ll also skip wine and sugar the night before – it makes a huge difference.
I love a snatched hairdo with a glossy finish as my go-to party look
It feels and looks refreshing after a long day. I use a gel or a wax stick to get that tight, shiny look, which only takes a few minutes. It’s great for when I have no time to get ready after tucking in four kids at bedtime.
I feel the most calm and grounded…
…when I’m barefoot in the garden with my kids, cooking something simple, or just sitting outside with a cup of coffee and no phone. It’s just about being present. Taking five minutes every morning for a simple breathwork session has really made a difference to my daily life, too. It helps me connect with myself and set a positive intention for the day ahead.
My biggest beauty tip is…
…SPF50, SPF50, SPF50! I can’t say it enough. I use mine all year round. That and a good facial oil. It gives a glow instantly, even on no-makeup days.
