6 Exquisite Boutique Hotels For A Gorgeously Unique Stay
From a restored Italian Renaissance villa to a modernist Casablanca retreat, these six beautifully individual hotels combine extraordinary interiors, fascinating histories and an excellent sense of place
Villa Sahrai, Casablanca, Morocco
Looking out across the Atlantic from Casablanca’s fashionable Ain Diab neighborhood, Villa Sahrai is designed to bring a new aesthetic to Morocco’s most cosmopolitan city. The brainchild of French architect Christophe Pillet, the 56-room hotel takes inspiration from the modernist villas of the historic Anfa district, combining sculptural Brutalism with warm, inviting interiors. Walnut wood, marble, terracotta and textured plaster are an elegant backdrop for bespoke furnishings and artworks, including original illustrations by French artist Aurore de la Morinerie. The rooftop restaurant L’Aragosta serves Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and gets particularly lively at sunset, when DJs take up residency. Elsewhere, an Italian trattoria, Cinq Mondes spa, hammam and indoor pool give plenty of opportunity to relax and unwind.

La Posta Vecchia, near Rome, Italy
Set in a destination once fit for Roman emperors’ vacations, La Posta Vecchia offers a perfect outlook over the Tyrrhenian Sea from its coastal resort, just 40 minutes west of Rome. Part of the trio that includes Il Pellicano and Mezzatorre hotels, this beguiling 17th-century Renaissance villa pays homage to its storied past. It features 21 rooms and suites – the most expansive views found in those perched high in the tower – each brimming with character and eye-catching detail. The marble staircase within the Medici Suite bathroom is particularly remarkable. Restored in the 1960s by Jean Paul Getty, whose collection of art and antiques still adorns the property, the hotel overflows with spaces so beautiful that photographs hardly do them justice. The indoor pool, illuminated by floor-to-ceiling arched windows that open onto the sea-facing terrace, is a true showstopper.

Grand Hotel Son Net, Mallorca, Spain
In the foothills of Mallorca’s Unesco-listed Serra de Tramuntana mountains – less than a 30-minute drive from Palma – Grand Hotel Son Net has transformed a magnificent 17th-century estate into a fantastically intimate 31-room retreat. Reimagined by acclaimed Spanish interior designer Lorenzo Castillo, the hotel offers a wonderfully decorative sensibility to the island’s historic architecture. The stone floors, vaulted ceilings and antique fireplaces are still in residence, but offset by abundantly patterned textiles, meticulously sourced antiques and an eclectic collection of art. As well as its palatial interiors, the estate is framed by grand views of the surrounding mountains. Plus, there is an expansive spa, complete with a heated saltwater pool and thermal circuit.

Maison Proust, Paris, France
While Paris is often celebrated for its grand dames, the city also boasts equally enchanting, intimate boutique hotels that embrace its romantic allure. In the heart of Le Marais, Maison Proust is a hidden gem, inspired by 20th-century literary legend and socialite Marcel Proust. Its decadent, jewel-box design evokes the spirit of Belle Époque salons, from the resplendent lamplit bar and domed library to the winter garden and 23 bedrooms and suites – each named after a character from Proust’s works – adorned in opulent tones, patterns and textiles. Guests descending to the spa below can book private sessions to enjoy an hour alone in the remarkable columned swimming pool and hammam.

The Hôtel Lili, Beverly Hills, California
Close to everyone’s favorite shopping haunt Rodeo Drive, The Hôtel Lili brings Parisian allure to the streets of Beverly Hills. Originally a private residence dating back to 1939, the property has been transformed into a 44-room boutique hotel. Its interiors lean into the vaudeville character of the building’s original era, with wallpapered ceilings, Versailles-pattern parquet flooring, globe lighting, velvet curtains and chinoiserie-framed panels. The charming bar is designed for stealthily lingering over expertly made cocktails – such as the hotel’s signature Lili Martini, made with lychee and lemon – and the guestrooms feature Italian linens and Diptyque bath amenities.

Palácio de Tavira, Algarve, Portugal
In the heart of Tavira, one of the Algarve’s prettiest and most historically interesting towns, Palácio de Tavira is an enchanting alternative to the region’s beach resorts. Opened in August 2025 and awarded its first Michelin Key in 2026, a restored palace has been transformed into a 36-room hotel, making gorgeous use of the original architecture while adding a contemporary wing inspired by the town’s Moorish heritage. The two spaces, Palácio and Medina, combine grand Portuguese sensibilities, with secluded courtyards, natural stone, linen and locally crafted furnishings. Two rooftop plunge pools allow you to take a cool soak while taking in the town’s terracotta vistas, while the Luma Spa offers a sauna, steam room and a raft of relaxing treatments. The acclaimed Mirsal restaurant, which celebrates the Algarve’s seafood and seasonal produce, means that dining is another of the hotel’s cornerstones. And if you’re venturing out, Tavira’s cobbled streets, ornate churches and proximity to the unspoilt beaches of Ilha de Tavira are all a charming way to spend an afternoon.
