A Crystal Healer On How To Pick The Right Jewels For You
If you’re looking for a stone to boost your energy or bring more love into your life, crystal healer REEYA AVANI decodes the precious gemstones you might want to consider adding to your jewelry box right now…
Reeya Avani runs her reiki and crystal-healing practice from St James’s Square, in the heart of London’s Mayfair, surrounded by entrepreneurs and corporate yuppies – many of whom are her clients. From bankers and doctors to women working in STEM industries and stay-at-home mothers, Avani’s client base includes those who are deeply rooted in science and those wholly focused on spirituality. More often than not, they believe in a little bit of both.

“Crystal healing is seen as a very hippie thing to do, but I wanted to change that idea; we all wear jewelry, we all interact with stones, we all have energy. I wanted to create a safe space for ultra-stressed people, where anyone from any walk of life can come and put their feet up and talk to me, maybe sit with a crystal, and get something back. I wanted to open their minds a bit more,” she explains.
Avani’s practice is centered on interpreting her clients’ energy and indicating – some would say prescribing – which crystal’s properties correspond to their needs. On entering her treatment room, she invites each client to select the crystal they feel inextricably drawn to from her rows of glittering geodes and technicolor stones. “When we’re working with energy, we’re always drawn to what we need. When you’re pulled towards a piece of jewelry, there’s a reason you need it; why you are attracted to a specific stone, color or shape.”
With her busy client base, alongside working with jewelry brands including Chopard, Avani is in high demand; her practice is often a haven for those going through tough, emotional challenges. Want to incorporate crystals into your own jewelry collection? Here are Avani’s top tips…
Take time to correctly identify your needs
“Crystal healing isn’t like a massage or getting your nails done; it’s much deeper than that – we’re working on a deep desire to heal something,” she says. “Take time to work out what area of life you are struggling with; I work with each individual to identify what is making them feel this way and where they are blocked energetically. Everyone is different; they will need different crystals, and will need to interact with them in varying ways – whether that’s carrying them, wearing them in jewelry, or placing them within the home.”

Try to have skin-to-stone contact
“How and where we place stones can be very important. If a client complains to me that they’re sleeping poorly, and they’re keeping an obsidian crystal under their pillow – a very active crystal – then it’s time to reassess that placement,” she explains. Certain stones need to be touching the skin, such as black tourmaline, which is a grounding stone, while others can be carried around as small pebbles. Size can also affect their impact – a small sapphire can be a very powerful stone, while amethyst can be used to release stress, but a larger size will help.”

Invest in your collection long-term
“As your needs change and your energy oscillates, you will grow towards and away from certain crystals,” says Avani. “With jewelry, sometimes we have pieces that we wear for years and then suddenly we want to change – I believe that is our energy calling for change. It’s important to buy jewelry intuitively, go with what you feel drawn to, keep it, and that crystal will stay with you, coming in and out of your life at different points.”
