East of Eden
Florence Pugh is taking on one of literature’s most fascinating antiheroines in Netflix’s ambitious new adaptation of John Steinbeck’s East of Eden. Written and co-showrun by Zoe Kazan, the seven-part series focuses on Cathy Ames, whose arrival in California and relationships with brothers Adam and Charles Trask, played by Christopher Abbott and Challengers’ Mike Faist, unravel in an intense family saga. Moving across two generations in California’s Salinas Valley, it explores inheritance, identity, desire and the choices that shape us, with Ciarán Hinds, Martha Plimpton and Tracy Letts rounding out an impressive cast. Carrie
Mike Flanagan, who created The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, is giving Stephen King’s most famous telekinetic antihero a rework for the modern day. Summer H. Howell stars as the awkward teenager, thrust into public high school following her father’s death and finding herself dealing with a viral bullying scandal, just as her mysterious powers begin to emerge. Samantha Sloyan plays Carrie’s mother Margaret, alongside a cast including Amber Midthunder, Matthew Lillard and Siena Agudong. Expanded across eight episodes, this is the first time King’s novel has been adapted as a television series. On Prime Video from October 7

Pride and Prejudice
Yes, another Pride and Prejudice. But this one has the brilliant Dolly Alderton writing it, Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet, Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy and Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet, which has us excited to return to Longbourn. Netflix’s new six-part adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel is directed by Heartstopper’s Euros Lyn and brings together a delicious cast of Brits, including Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham. Just as excited as we were for Greta Gerwig’s reimagining of Wuthering Heights, so we are for Alderton to find fresh relevance for a new generation. On Netflix from December 3.
