The Shoulder Bags We’re Lusting After This Season
From petite and structured to soft and slouchy, shoulder bags have never been more diverse – and there’s a style out there to suit every taste this season, says COLLEEN ROSS
Despite maxi totes making their way back onto the runways in recent seasons, the trend for compact, hands-free bags is still going strong – and SS25 has ushered in a smorgasbord of new styles to covet, from contemporary updates on archive classics to more experimental designs in eye-catching shapes and finishes.
McQueen’s textured-leather ‘T-Bar Sling’ bag has all the makings of a future classic, proving that subversive design can be timeless, too. Debuted on the SS25 runway and one of the first created by Seán McGirr, it’s crafted from a single piece of pebbled leather, skilfully folded into a sculptural, asymmetric shape that comfortably hugs the body. Elsewhere, some bags are so iconic, they don’t need a logo to get noticed, and that’s certainly true of Bottega Veneta’s ‘Parachute’ bag from our NET SUSTAIN edit – the brand’s signature intrecciato weave has become an instant signifier of elevated taste.
Inspired by Chloé’s codes and detailed with the brand’s hallmark galloping-horse medallion – a symbol of freedom – the maison’s ‘Chloé Heritage’ bag from our NET SUSTAIN edit joins an already iconic lineup of styles dreamt up by creative director Chemena Kamali. The soft-leather construction ensures it sits comfortably under your arm, while the adjustable chain strap means you can either wear it draped over your shoulder, or cross-body for ease. Minimalists, meanwhile, will love Alaïa’s ‘Le Click’ bag, which has been crafted from smooth beige leather and comes in a distinctive elongated silhouette with just enough space inside for essentials.
Toteme’s ‘T-Lock’ bag has been a fashion-editor favorite since 2022 and is updated this season in strips of woven leather; its curved top and smooth base will look like an intentional interior-design accent on your desk or dressing table. Similarly, Savette’s structured ‘Symmetry’ bag – another NET SUSTAIN highlight – exudes quiet elegance, nodding to timeless vintage styles but with a few modern considerations, namely the sleek trapeze shape and silver-tone pebble clasp.
