The Rejuvenating Dynamic Duo That Will Transform Your Skincare Routine

Designed to replace your entire arsenal of skincare products, Lyma’s new serum-and-cream power pair uses epigenetics to target aging in all layers of the skin. So here’s why you might want to consider a routine overhaul – for your best skin yet…

What exactly is epigenetic skincare?

When it comes to skin, epigenetics is the science of how external factors – like our environment and lifestyles – can influence how we age, as opposed to our inherited genetic traits. What’s more, research shows that most signs of ageing are mainly epigenetic. “Epigenetic skincare ingredients manipulate the local environment around a cell in order to influence which genes are being expressed,” says Dr. Graeme Glass, a plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon and aesthetic director at Lyma. “Lyma skincare has been formulated with those specific ingredients that are proven to have an anti-aging epigenetic effect – which work to gradually repair damage to DNA and replace lost collagen. By subtly changing how the cells in our skin are behaving we can completely transform the skin’s aging trajectory.”

How does it work?

This skincare set – made up of a serum and a cream – offers an easy, two-step solution to treat all of your skin concerns at the deepest layers of the skin. “The majority of skincare products treat the top 20% of superficial skin cells in the epidermis,” says Dr. Glass. “This is fine for a temporary, superficial fix, but, in terms of aging, if you’re only treating the epidermis, it’s simply too late.” According to Glass, research shows there are eight ways that the skin ages – from water loss to a change in your skin’s immunity and microbiome – and they all stem from deep in the dermis. “Lyma skincare is the first and only skincare that tackles all of them,” he says. “The formulas use special technology to address each of these eight cellular processes of skin aging by targeting cells through every layer of the skin. This creates a profound structural shift deep within the dermis, transforming the 80% of living dermal cells that conventional skincare has never before been able to target.”

You can have the best skincare actives in the world but, if they’re not formulated in a way that the skin can readily absorb them, they won’t work

Can all skin types use these products?

This dynamic duo was designed to work with all skin types and tones, as well as to boost skin’s overall health, no matter where you are in the aging process. While they’re formulated with 80% active skin ingredients – shared between the serum and cream for optimum results – you don’t need to worry about irritating sensitive – or redness-prone – skin. “In fact, the pair improves skin immunity, so skin is more resilient to extrinsic and intrinsic stressors, and floods all layers of the skin with hydration and improved microcirculation,” says Lyma founder Lucy Goff. “The results of skin biopsy trials have shown excellent results in calming redness, inflammation and sensitivity in the skin.”

What’s the best way to use them?

Always start with a double cleanse, says Goff. “This allows the formula to sink in properly when applied.” Next, warm three pumps of the serum between your fingertips and massage it into skin using gentle circular motions – taking it down your neck, too. Wait one minute for this to absorb before following with three pumps of the cream. Massage it into your face and neck until a white film forms – this is a sign that the formula is getting to work.

Do you really only need two products in your skincare routine?

Using more products doesn’t always equal better results. In fact, Dr. Glass stresses that how your skin is fed ingredients, matters most. “You can have the best skincare actives in the world but, if they’re not formulated in a way that the skin can readily absorb them, they won’t work. Our skin barriers are designed to keep external influences out so, to truly change skin’s architecture, instead of just superficially plumping the surface of the skin, you have to cheat that system.” Here’s where Lyma’s unique delivery system gets its ingredients exactly where they’re needed. “We use a specific type of liposome that’s small enough to be absorbed by the skin,” says Dr. Glass. “It works by releasing the ingredients within it as it merges with the skin, increasing the penetration of the active ingredients throughout the different layers. The molecules are also encapsulated – to trick skin into accepting them deep down in the dermis.” It’s thanks to this cutting-edge delivery system, and the potency and quality of the science-backed ingredients, that this dynamic duo delivers such visibly rejuvenating results.
