The Makeup Looks To Pair With… This Summer’s Beachwear

Easy and effortless is the best approach when it comes to beach beauty. SPF is a must, of course, but the latest formulations not only boost skin but will provide the perfect base for a look that complements bright-toned swimwear. Here, NEWBY HANDS shows us how it’s done

Go for pared-back and polished

Newer sun care blends SPF with serious skincare to give a choice of finishes (matte, dewy or glowing) that leave skin looking pretty rather than sticky, or with a white cast of sun cream. Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF30 delivers a dewy sheen, while Ultra Violette Mattifying Skinscreen SPF50 is perfect for shiny skin or anyone who prefers a soft, velvety texture. Alternatively, for a little more cover, Sisley’s Tinted Sun Care Stick SPF50 can be blended out like a sheer foundation to give the most beautiful finish. Finally, a pomade or clear gel brushed through brows (or, if needed, Chantecaille Waterproof Brow Definer pencil) will give the face a natural, pulled-together finish.

Add a shot of color

Whether you’re wearing a block-color bikini or a multicolored cover-up, choosing one standout shade to accent eyes or lips (never both) works well. For lips, a creamy texture looks fresher than gloss, especially in a strong pink or geranium red – Rose Inc Blush Divine Radiant Cheek & Lip Color in Ophelia is ideal. On eyes, choose a liner in any shade apart from black to contrast or match your swimsuit/cover-up – turquoise, teal or a metallic hue look pretty in the waterline, or try an elegant plum, navy or even deep-red tone eye pencil (Charlotte Tilbury’s cult nude Pillow Talk liner is surprisingly flattering) for a corner flick instead.

Look to soft metallics for subtle sheen

Alternatively, a sheer, soft-toned metallic shade looks great blended over eyelids, lips or as a cheek highlight. This muted beachside update on summer’s glitter trend works with everything from black to strong pastels, but looks best with single colors rather than patterns. Try Ultra Violette’s peach-toned Sheen Screen Hydrating Lip Balm SPF50, which is shot through with gold shimmer, or Ilia’s Liquid Powder Chromatic Eye Tint in Mythic for a subtle rose-gold sheen.
