A ‘pop of red’ has been trending for a while, but this season, tastemakers are leveling up by throwing another color into the mix: cobalt. A tried-and-tested formula that spans fashion, art and interiors, the eye-catching combination was spotted in abundance on the spring/summer 2026 runways, with Loewe, Jil Sander, Versace and Stella McCartney all offering fresh ways to wear Rothko-coded primary colors right now.
“Red and blue accents are an effective way to make an outfit feel thoughtful and creative under a pretty casual guise,” says NET-A-PORTER buying manager Rachel Nimmo. “For me, they have maintained their relevance from a color-trend perspective and feel like a safe bet for a fashion-leaning investment piece.”
When it comes to styling bold shades like this, balance is key. Rather than wearing them from top to toe, Nimmo suggests pairing them with more neutral tones. “When using red or blue as the building block to my outfit, I love to pare them back with something minimal like a white shirt or beige accessory, so they stand out as the center piece,” she adds. The Row’s ‘Dender’ pants, for example, serve as the perfect base to Jil Sander’s cobalt-blue ribbed-knit top from the spring/summer 2026 runway. Just add Khaite’s bead-embellished ‘Milly’ loafers for an effortlessly chic daytime look.

At once timely and timeless, Auralee’s tomato-red shirt, also seen on the runway, will ensure you feel perfectly put together in every setting. Wear it from the office to dinner with Saint Laurent’s nylon skirt in this gorgeous tobacco shade and a blue heel (Versace’s denim ‘Tina’ pumps are our top pick) or tie it around your waist with jeans and a light-blue tank at the weekend. Finally, reach for Bottega Veneta’s ‘The 1998’ bag in chocolate intrecciato leather and you’re good to go.
