Hollywood’s favorite esthetician, SHANI DARDEN, reveals her daily skincare favorites, red-carpet secrets and midnight snacking habits…



My skincare rule is…

…the simpler, the better. I cleanse my skin, use an antioxidant followed by hyaluronic acid (at the moment, I love Dr Nigma Talib Hydrating and Plumping Serum No1), and always wear sunscreen. The importance of SPF is the one thing I’ve drilled into my kids when it comes to skincare!

I visit the best juice bar…

…it’s called Erewhon and there are a few around Los Angeles. It does the best organic juices, so I grab an apple, ginger and carrot blend before I start work. Jessica Alba introduced me to her nutritionist, Kelly LeVeque, who taught me that I should take omegas and probiotic supplements every morning with my daily juice.

I have hair extensions, but I’m still really into haircare…

…my favorite shampoo and conditioner is the Davines Love Smoothing range, which is great for frizzy or dry hair, especially in the LA heat. I don’t do much to style it, but I love having natural movement, and the best texturizer is the Ouai Haircare Texturizing Hair Spray. It just makes you look more alive!

My red-carpet secret…

…is a lactic-acid peel. It’s the gentlest acid, and it also hydrates, so it’s really great for glowing skin. There is no downtime, making it perfect for my clients who need to walk the red carpet. It gets rid of all the dead skin on the surface without irritation, and you can apply makeup almost straightaway. I wind down by doing a sheet mask

…and my daughters love to do it with me. Generally, I’m in bed by 8pm. If I have a late night or little sleep, my skin looks noticeably duller in the morning, so I use a yellow LED light mask to revive and detoxify. I’ll also do an at-home peel and a really hydrating sheet mask.

I can’t live without essential oils…

…on my bedside table I have a diffuser that’s on all night. I only use scents that promote peace and are calming or stress-relieving, such as ylang-ylang or patchouli. There’s also a big jug of room-temperature water by my bed. I stay hydrated throughout the day by keeping bottles of water in every room of my house and every room of my office so I never forget!

I swear by my LED mask

…and use it five times a week for 20 minutes. The Déesse Pro has eight different treatment modes to target everything from breakouts to brightening and anti-aging. My evening skincare routine is simple – I cleanse my skin, use my Resurface Retinol Reform (or my Texture Reform Gentle Resurfacing Serum when my skin is sensitive), a moisturizer and an eye cream.

My midnight snack is pretty unheard of…

…I like to eat frozen gummy bears or frozen sour gummy worms. Keep them in the freezer and they become the best midnight snack because of their weird but wonderful texture! You can thank me later.
