Introducing The Frozen Kiss Collection By David Morris

Inspired by one of the world’s most emotive sculptures, British jewelry maison David Morris launches a new collection that spotlights the everlasting romance of fine diamonds. By CHARLIE BOYD

There are certain works of sculpture that need no introduction; those that are universally admired for their place in art and world history. Michelangelo’s David, Alexandros of Antioch’s Venus De Milo, and perhaps the most romantic of all, Rodin’s masterpiece The Kiss, are such priceless examples. First unveiled in 1882, The Kiss depicts two lovers locked in an eternal embrace, and is crafted from smooth white marble that suspends the lovers’ affection frozen in time. Originally conceived as part of a bronze portal crafted by the French visionary, titled The Gates of Hell, Rodin decided to remove the lovers from the scene and create a standalone sculpture in stone that would bring to life their unbridled passion.

Considered a somewhat provocative interpretation of romance at the time, it’s the subtle details of the sculpture that bring its raw beauty to life. The same can be said of British jewelry maison David Morris’s new Frozen Kiss collection, which displays similarly contemporary yet classic design codes. Founded in 1962, and now widely known as ‘The London Jeweller’, David Morris is a family-owned business that hails from the British capital and now also has boutiques in Paris and the Middle East. Synonymous with some of the world’s rarest and most exquisite gemstones, David Morris’s unique specialism lies in showcasing remarkable works of Mother Nature in carefully crafted settings, each refined by the maison’s master craftsmen in its London atelier, where every design comes to life.

Frozen Kiss captures those moments when you are overwhelmed with love and you just want to bottle that feeling

To conceive the Frozen Kiss collection, the David Morris team selected the finest round brilliant-cut white diamonds – one of the most romantic gifts imaginable. Inspired by the lingering and magnetic energy that seems to brood between the two lovers of the sculpture, each diamond is embraced by rows of micro-set diamonds that spiral around one carat center stones, swirling to create a scintillating whirlpool that symbolizes of the pull of love. Bestowed upon a capsule collection of six jewels – a ring, stud and drop earrings, a double bangle, a pendant, and a torque necklace – the motif reimagines a traditional take on solitaire diamond jewelry, adding extra chemistry and contemporary charisma.

"Frozen Kiss captures those moments when you are overwhelmed with love and you just want to bottle that feeling,” says Jeremy Morris, CEO and creative director at David Morris. “These pieces are for modern-day lovers to wear and give as tokens of adoration, appreciation and respect,” he explains. Perhaps most emblematic of this sentiment is the collection’s torque necklace and bangle. Adorned with two diamond kisses, the bangle echoes a traditional ‘toi et moi’ silhouette representative of two lovers about to entwine, while the kisses upon the torque necklace meet at the collarbone – the culmination of strong, curved lines that symbolize the powerful passion in the first throes of romance.

Today, Rodin’s masterpiece rests in The Musée Rodin in Paris, a timeless tribute to the sculptor’s extraordinary talents, which can be admired through the ages and by generation after generation. The same can be said of the Frozen Kiss collection; each piece is an heirloom of tomorrow, to be passed down as a symbol of all the love stories in every family – of those before, now and evermore.
