Socks

Yes, that’s right. Socks are this season’s not-so-secret (yet most unassuming) styling weapon. Whether you’re adding a pop of color to pared-back looks or a touch of preppiness to tailoring, socks have become every tastemaker’s favorite way to tie an outfit together. The best part? It couldn’t be easier to replicate. Our absolute favorite way to elevate denim is with red socks – stock up on Lisa Yang’s ribbed cashmere ‘Zera’ pair, because you’ll want to wear them with everything from ankle-cropped pants and sneakers to barrel-leg jeans and loafers. Alternatively, take note from actor Naomi Watts by wearing Comme Si’s ‘The Yves’ ankle socks with a midi dress and heels.

The epitome of elegance, leather gloves – worn with a cuff for added style points – will pull any look together

Gloves

Evoking the glamour and elegance of a bygone era, gloves can make any outfit feel more polished – with the right styling. Our top tip? Keep the length of your sleeves in mind. If they’re long, choose shorter gloves, and vice versa. Materials matter, too – those in sumptuous textures such as leather and cashmere are key to keeping things chic. Crafted from butter-soft black leather, Agnelle’s wrist-grazing gloves are beautifully detailed, with cutouts and perforations. If you’re looking to inject some color into your look, Nour Hammour’s burgundy pair in supple leather will do the trick.

Belts

Whether you wear one or four at a time, belts are the chicest way to accessorize an outfit right now – just ask show-goers at fashion week, who used them to cinch the waists of oversized coats and blazers, or to add attitude to low-slung jeans and skirts. Choosing a variety of colors and textures helps to keep things interesting, while skinnier widths make them easy to stack and thread through the loops of pants. Déhanche, Tom Ford and Anderson’s versions all come with timeless hardware in a mix of gleaming silver and gold.

Tastemakers Grece Ghanem and Alexandra Carl prove that the best shades are always oversized

Oversized aviators

Part of the joy of wearing sunglasses is the freedom they offer to experiment: from bold and statement-making to sleek and understated, there’s a pair to reflect your style and mood. Without a doubt, this season’s most popular shades are retro aviators – we’re talking oversized, ’70s-inspired frames with exaggerated teardrop-shaped, tinted lenses. Follow content creator and model Grece Ghanem’s lead by wearing Prada Eyewear’s futuristic glasses with a simple turtleneck sweater and statement drop earrings. Alternatively, try Tom Ford Eyewear’s ‘Achilles’ sunglasses on your commute with a trench coat and tailoring – just like stylist Alexandra Carl.

Scarves and hoods

Practical purposes aside, a scarf is perfect for adding a touch of personality to trans-seasonal looks. The Row’s ‘Mentas’ cashmere scarf comes in the season’s favorite neckerchief silhouette, while Johnstons of Elgin’s ‘Clan’ style is patterned with heritage argyle checks. Both are great for elevating minimal outfits and look elegant draped over the shoulders of a cashmere sweater or trench coat. The same goes for knitted balaclavas, which are back and chicer than ever. A savvy way to keep your hair intact on brisk winter walks, Arch4’s version from our NET SUSTAIN edit is cable-knitted from exquisitely soft cashmere and has ribbed trims to keep it in place.

Hair accessories

From oversized scrunchies to sculptural metal hair ties, statement hair accessories were spotted on and off the runways this season. Pearl and chainmail tiaras were used to crown slicked-back updos at Simone Rocha, while studded headpieces sat atop flowing locks at Versace. For a simple take on the trend, try Lié Studio’s ‘The Thea’ hair tie – crafted from silver-plated brass, the curved shape is perfect for framing a sleek ponytail. Alternatively, use Gigi Burris’s ‘Frances’ pin (a NET-A-PORTER exclusive) to sweep your hair away from your face.

New, or vintage? When jewelry pieces are this striking – and this convincing – who cares?

Vintage-inspired jewelry

Now, more than ever, jewelry designers are looking to replicate the magic of the past, with reimagined takes on Art Deco, Victorian and mid-century designs leading the way in their collections. New York-based former antiques dealer Juju Vera has a keen eye for vintage and the unique historical details that inform much of her work – take this ‘Petra’ necklace, for instance, which is strung with a tasseled, onyx-embellished shell pendant that could easily be mistaken for a piece from the ’20s. Elsewhere, Le Sundial’s Art Deco-style ring and Sophie Buhai’s ‘Venetian’ earrings are both exclusive to NET-A-PORTER and modern heirlooms in the making.
