Most Wanted
A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
When it comes to fashion and possessing a truly great sense of style, it’s not a paint-by-numbers game. But when it comes to building a well-considered winter capsule, you can stick to a tried-and-tested formula: a cozy coat, a snuggly knit, trusty denim and do-it-all shoes. That’s not to say that your curated capsule can’t be packed with personality and fun, feel-good pieces. Why can’t your new coat be a statement-making trophy design? Or your new knit come in an ultra-vibrant hue? This week’s Most Wanted spotlights enduring classics that are anything but boring – starting with the perfect red sweater.
“I love the bold brightness of this knit – it is such a mood-booster for this time of year,” says NET-A-PORTER’s acting fashion editor Charlotte Blazeby, of Toteme’s uplifting scarlet layer. Part of our NET SUSTAIN edit of consciously crafted pieces, it’s knitted from natural, responsibly sourced wool that is ultra-soft and will really last if you care for it kindly. “I would pair it with blue jeans and flats for an effortless everyday look,” adds Blazeby, turning to Gabriela Hearst for the latter. Exclusively available at NET-A-PORTER, the sustainability-focused designer’s pointy Mary Janes are crafted from plush black velvet, made using certified organic cotton. On days when you might need a few extra layers, Blazeby suggests adding a crisp poplin shirt into the mix. “A collar will sit perfectly underneath this sweater’s modern ribbed neckline, or you could even wear it slouched over a shirt dress, thanks to the relaxed shape.”
When it comes to finding wide-leg jeans that are the perfect fit, turn to LA brand Citizens of Humanity – we love the ‘Paloma’ jeans, which are slouchy and baggy without running the risk of overwhelming your frame. All that’s left is the aforementioned trophy coat, and it comes courtesy of The Frankie Shop. Best known for founder Gaëlle Drevet’s eye for cool, exaggerated silhouettes, and an Instagram feed that’s full of street-style inspiration, the brand doesn’t disappoint with the striking proportions and cocooning shape of its ‘Joni’ coat. It has a bit of a ’70s vibe and can be belted on chilly days to really lock in warmth. What’s more, the neutral, deep camel shade balances the distinctiveness of the soft, fluffy faux fur nicely and is the perfect match to Chloé’s leather ‘Marcie’ tote – or gold jewelry, such as Lié Studio’s dangling ‘The Caroline’ earrings.
