A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
When in search of newness for FW23, there is one key thing to focus on: layering – the art of which might not come naturally, unless you’re a Danish fashion influencer. However, there is a formula for the way stylish Copenhagen locals tend to mix unexpected pieces and fearlessly approach layering with a medley of colors and textures. Layering requires a capsule of its own: a longline coat, a characterful knit, hero pants and luxe accessories. So, if you haven’t already done so, it’s time to pack away your summer clothes and reevaluate your winter staples.
When it comes to the perfect knit, turn to a brand that values craft and creates with both today and the future in mind. Named for the idea of lovingly passing clothes down through generations, &Daughter locally produces knitwear using 100% natural yarns, and it’s the brand’s ‘Ada’ cardigan, which just landed in our NET SUSTAIN edit, that has caught the eye of NET-A-PORTER senior fashion assistant Annie Hertikova. “A cardigan is always a trusty wardrobe staple that I reach for when temperatures dip, and now feels like a good time to add a cozy layer over a simple tee, tank or shirt,” she says. “I love how &Daughter has refreshed the Fair Isle knitting technique in such fresh and uplifting colors. It feels right for now.” Inspired by the old-school classicism of a crewneck, it’s made in the traditional process of fully fashioning, before the individually knit sections are linked together by hand and finished with responsibly sourced mother-of-pearl buttons, which look cool when left undone at the top and bottom.
To start playing around with textures, smooth leather is the perfect match to sumptuous wool – especially when it comes in one of the season’s hottest shades: chocolate brown. Taking cues from the gently curved, straight-leg shape of some of Goldsign’s best-selling jeans, the brand’s naturally stretchy leather ‘Trey’ pants are as butter-soft as they look. “I’ll be wearing the ‘Ada’ cardigan and some of my other favorite sweaters with leather pants for fall. With the right styling, leather feels a touch more elevated than denim, but can work for just as many settings,” says Hertikova.
To complete the look, it falls on the finer details like shoes, bags and jewelry. Stick with leather, courtesy of a chic bag from Savette, or inject an extra dose of softness with Aeyde’s suede ankle boots or Loewe’s shearling version of its cult ‘Puffer Goya’ bag. “To finish, I’ll be adding glossy gold jewelry because it always makes me feel a bit dressier,” shares Hertikova, who has Lauren Rubinski’s 14-karat-gold bracelet at the top of her wish list.
