A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
Fall is technically here, and yet the temperature in Paris – where the city's Fashion Week is about to close – remains beautifully balmy. So while street-style stars may still be peacocking in micro-minis and crop tops, the rest of us have packed the poolside kaftans and slides into storage and are ready to embrace our fall wardrobe.
Cue those in-between-weather items – think lightweight jackets, superfine tailored pants and smart pumps – that need to be worn now before temperatures drop too low. For Abbi Minchin, NET-A-PORTER’s junior market editor, a bouclé jacket is the perfect pick. “Not only does it provide an extra layer of warmth, but mixing fabrics and textures is a great way to elevate an otherwise minimal look,” she says. “I’ll be paring it back with a tailored pant – which is an all-year staple for me – and a simple T-shirt, to take me from the office and into the weekend.”
Complete the look with a pair of ballet flats or patent Mary Janes, such as Christian Louboutin’s ‘Miss Jane’ pumps, plus a go-anywhere tote that is roomy enough for both sunnies and a scarf – ensuring you’re prepared for the autumnal weather shifts. “I have been crushing on Saint Laurent’s ‘Le 5 à 7’ bags for a while now, and this bucket style is the perfect everyday bag,” says Minchin. “It’s large enough to fit all the necessities, with two strap options, while still being sleek and sophisticated.”
When nightfall comes, this in-between season allows for the ultimate French-girl look: slightly vampy eveningwear, paired with bare legs and a red lip. Minchin suggests opting for this black midi dress from Jacquemus, which is a NET-A-PORTER exclusive: “The off-the-shoulder, figure-hugging silhouette is extremely flattering, giving high-octane glamour. For me, you can’t go wrong with black and gold, so a chain bracelet from the likes of Lauren Rubinski, and stacked rings, are the perfect pairing. Add satin pumps to finish the look.”
