The cult Pasha de Cartier watch makes a stylish return
Relaunched on its 35th anniversary, this is a watch that offers classic style and innovative functionality, plus a few special touches
When we picture ’80s style, we see power suits, power shoulders and power watches. Cartier’s cult Pasha de Cartier was first introduced in 1985, and it immediately stood out for its nonconformist aesthetic: a square filigree rail-track is found in the circle of its dial, which, combined with the house’s signature cobalt sword hands, gives it a clean, graphic and eye-catching finish that, at the time, perfectly offset the formidable fashion of the era.
Relaunched on its 35th anniversary – and now available at NET-A-PORTER – the Pasha is just as desirable as ever and brings all its original boldness with it, plus a few slick new additions. Its crown features a blue spinel or sapphire, and it now comes with a sapphire crystal case back. Plus, new interchangeable straps allow for myriad styling possibilities – from steel and gold to sleek leather – using the novel Cartier-developed QuickSwitch system, an undetectable mechanism found under the case that works with just a single push. This dynamic piece also features SmartLink capabilities, meaning the metal bracelet length can easily be customised for the convenience of the current owner, or should it be passed down to a new owner (this classic style is sure to become a future family heirloom), using a simple push-button release system.
Adding further individuality, it can also be discreetly engraved – creating the perfect finishing touch to a special gift. Have your beloved’s initials etched under the crown cover, where they can only be revealed when the Pasha’s signature chained crown is unscrewed.

As part of this exciting relaunch, the Parisian watchmaker assembled a group of ambitious ambassadors to front its new campaign. Actors Rami Malek and Maisie Williams, Hong Kong rapper Jackson Wang, and singers Willow Smith and Troye Sivan make up a new generation of up-and-coming talent who mirror the watch’s dynamism.
As for how to wear it, save the sleek metal for days when you want to look and feel powerful and pair it with classic tailoring. This season, loose cuts dominate and make for a slightly softer take on ’80s sharp suiting. Then, switch to a leather strap to elevate casual linen shirts and classic denim on off-duty days. Alternatively, experiment with the masculine/feminine feel of this watch and wear it with silk midi skirts and boyish, oversized blazers. This is a watch that will add the perfect finishing touch to evening ensembles, too – pair the gold or diamond-encrusted bezel versions with a sumptuous silk dress and modern square-toed heels for special occasions. However you choose to wear it, you’re guaranteed that this head-turning timepiece will lend a polished feel to every look.
