Vintage-look leather

When it comes to wardrobe treasures, there can be something quite sentimental about a great leather jacket. Think of it this way: no other fabric molds to fit you over the years quite like leather does, or starts to feel like home the more you wear it. We’re talking really soft jackets – the kind that feel like an old favorite from day one and often prompt your friends to ask, “Is it vintage?” From a Copenhagen name that excels in this field, Remain Birger Christensen’s faded ‘Liw’ style has an oversized fit that instantly makes any outfit cool, while Acne Studios’ bleached bomber has a cracked, overdyed coating for a lived-in look and is a clever faux option.

Asymmetric hemlines

Hemlines with an uneven slant caught eyes across the board at the FW23 shows – from Stella McCartney to Jacquemus – where they were styled with everything from knee-high boots to loafers. In a viral moment from last year’s Paris Fashion Week, Coperni delivered magic with Bella Hadid’s spray-on dress, but it was sister Gigi who slipped into the brand’s asymmetric pink gown for fall fittings. Over in Rodarte’s whimsical world, ethereal motifs worked in perfect harmony with draped, trailing fabrics. It was another family affair here, too, as the blown-up fairy print on the brand’s slip dress started as pencil illustrations by co-founders Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s artist mother, Victoria.

Stone homeware

Natural materials are an essential addition to any interior scheme and help evoke a sense of calm. Taking cues from the Brutalist architecture of Soho House Rome with a chunky, stepped design, Soho Home’s ‘Lola’ bookends are made from apple-green marble – the variation of the grain in every stone makes each piece unique. In the same heart shape as some of its hand-cut crystals, Jia Jia’s bowl is sculpted from onyx in neutral tones that will bring a touch of warmth to Scandinavian or farmhouse-inspired styling.

Argyle knits

Over the years, argyle has cropped up in some unforgettable ways – from Naomi Campbell’s leg-warmers in Vivienne Westwood’s ‘On Liberty’ FW94 show to preppy Y2K pop-culture moments on screen. Now, the pattern is back, with Burberry, Rowen Rose and Molly Goddard all in on the diamond-knitted action. For a classically pretty take, turn to Alessandra Rich and her rose-dotted cardigan, which resembles something Grace Kelly might have worn with a string of pearls. R13’s has an edgier vibe, with distressed trims and touches of mohair for maximum fuzz.

Arm art

Another form of ‘arm candy’, chunky bracelets and vibrant bangles are quick and easy ways to inject fun into your looks. However, let’s get it straight: it’s not about having an ‘arm party’ this season, but choosing one statement piece that adds the perfect finishing touch. Dries Van Noten’s sculptural cuff is set with faceted purple crystals that will complement the black-cherry nail trend that beauty influencers are currently obsessed with. As you might expect from a piece called ‘The Bubble To End All Bubbles’, Completedworks celebrates texture over color.

Biker boots

Biker boots are back – but did they ever really go anywhere? Always handy for transitional dressing, this season’s best styles channel the spirit of rebellion, with thick harness straps and buckle-clad uppers. First out on the runway as part of Daniel Lee’s debut as chief creative officer, Burberry’s iteration walks the line between moto and riding pairs and has the brand’s signature Equestrian Knight Design on the soles for good measure. Gianvito Rossi keeps things classic with smooth black leather and polished hardware.

Thoughtful skin saviors

Our NET SUSTAIN beauty edit champions brands that are leading the charge in the world of conscious production, looking at everything from vegan ingredients to considered packaging. Part of the edit since it launched, Tata Harper’s natural, plant-powered products help you find an effective ‘green routine’. Meanwhile, Susanne Kaufmann’s Purifying Cleansing Gel combines local production with locally sourced ingredients for a gentle skin detox and a hit of hydration – perfect for both the party season (when we might wear more makeup) and thirsty winter skin. The bottles are filled at a solar-powered production house and are refillable in the 250ml size, too.

Blanket dressing

If you always look forward to packing away summer dresses and pulling out snuggly knits, the blanket-dressing trend is undoubtedly for you. Elevated and refined, the fringed ‘Duchess’ poncho from Arch4 is spun from pure ivory cashmere and will pair effortlessly with jeans or something smarter for a more sophisticated evening look. Bright and brilliant in yellow, Burberry’s scarf is long enough to wrap around you and has a cozy hood.

Bowling bags

With its classic curves and elegant structure, the bowling bag has all the hallmarks of a future heirloom – and the style is especially long-lasting when crafted from exquisite, uncompromising materials. The Row’s Italian-made ‘Bowling Two’ tote demonstrates the sheer beauty of refined simplicity, while Gucci’s ‘Ophidia’ is part of its Savoy collection, nodding to founder Guccio Gucci’s time as a porter at the London hotel of the same name in the early 1900s. Both are the perfect size for chic city weekenders and days at the office.
