When it comes to avoiding clothing dilemmas, building up a solid wardrobe of indispensable items that are easy to style together is the only way to go. These trusty basics, however, should never be boring. “The trick is to invest in pieces that are minimalist yet interesting,” says NET-A-PORTER’s senior fashion assistant Annie Hertikova.

In a season that’s celebrating the beauty of great wardrobe staples, Liberowe stands out for its sharp summer suiting. Founded by Talia Loubaton, who cut her tailoring teeth at Alexander McQueen, each collection draws inspiration from Indian menswear and Paris in the ’70s. French New Wave cinema is also a key influence – think Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless, or anything starring Catherine Deneuve in the ’60s.

“Liberowe’s finely tailored designs deserve to be on your radar when searching for your next style investment,” says Hertikova, adding that everything about the brand’s ‘Vania’ vest feels “chic and elevated”. Qualifying for our NET SUSTAIN edit of more consciously crafted pieces, the timelessly cool collections are locally tailored in London using high-quality fabrics selected for their ability to endure.

The styling possibilities are endless for Liberowe’s navy sleeveless jacket, but you won’t go wrong turning to another NET SUSTAIN brand: Salon 1884 – one our five new names to know for SS24. Equally versatile in fresh white denim, the brand’s ‘Orlan’ maxi skirt is locally made in New York City’s Garment District, where brand founder Andrea Mary Marshall keeps a close eye on production methods. Wear the two with Valentino Garavani’s ‘VLOGO Gate’ loafers in off-white leather, or dress the look up with Dries Van Noten’s heeled leather pumps.

On cooler days, you could add even more dimension with a lightweight layer from Stella McCartney’s spring/summer ’24 collection, which was crafted using 95% responsible materials and presented on the streets of Paris at the Marché Saxe-Breteuil market. Another NET SUSTAIN style, the single-breasted blazer is woven from viscose that’s derived from FSC-certified wood pulp.

Lastly, take Hertikova’s advice and “use jewelry as a way to add personality to your look”. Sculpted from gold-plated recycled silver, Agmes’ ‘Celia’ hoops will bring the bling factor to your basics in no time, while Sorellina’s chunky ‘Capri’ necklace will add a refined finish. It’s strung with freshwater baroque pearls sourced from Japan and has a dusting of diamonds for extra sparkle.
