Chopard celebrated the launch of the 71st Cannes Film Festival last night with ‘The Gentlemen’s Evening,’ the maison’s first party of the season. Held in an intimate rooftop suite in local art-deco landmark Hotel Martinez, the soirée was in honor of the stars of this season’s festival, who flocked to enjoy unparalleled views of the city and harbor. The many yachts moored up to enjoy the week’s festivities could be seen twinkling on the horizon, providing the perfect background to a such a starry event. Best-dressed was a tough call; jaws literally dropped when Marion Cotillard arrived in a red leopard-print catsuit from Parisian label Koché, finished with a suitably bad-ass peroxide blond quiff. However, Julianne Moore also looked stunning in a beaded Chanel flapper dress and dazzling Chopard jewels. She spent the evening chatting on the terrace with actors Mads Mikkelsen, Christoph Waltz and Isabelle Adjani, with whom she’d walked the red carpet for the premiere of Asghar Farhadi’s Everybody Knows. Loved-up couple James Norton and Imogen Poots rarely left each other’s sides, except when Norton and a particularly dapper Luke Evans took to the dance floor and set the party in full swing; some well-deserved fun for the Welsh actor who has no less than three movies coming out this year. The rowdiest table no doubt belonged to the model contingent, headed up by Oliver Cheshire and Toby Huntington-Whiteley, who had just finished a road trip from Bordeaux to Cannes and were taking the celebrations very seriously. The party went on until the wee hours, but those who weren’t quite ready to call it a night strolled down Boulevard de la Croisette to another iconic party spot, Albane, for a night cap, or two…
