With the US Open underway in New York this weekend and fall/winter around the corner, elevated sportswear pieces are taking center stage. Before we turn our attention to fashion month, fans are expected to turn out in droves to catch their favorite tennis players in action, but it won’t just be the matches making headlines – the fashion will, too. While there is no formal dress code for spectators, you can always count on famous faces in the crowd to serve some seriously chic, sports-inspired outfits.

Whether you’re soaking up the action from the stands or watching from afar, get into the spirit and one of fall/winter 2026’s key trends by adding a few sporty separates to your weekend repertoire. Think technical windbreakers, collegiate polo knits and retro baseball tees – which, as luck would have it, are set to be huge news for fall.

“As summer draws to a close and the focus shifts to autumnal dressing, I’m looking to athleisure-inspired separates to retain some of the easygoing spirit I’ve grown accustomed to over the warmer months,” says NET-A-PORTER buying manager Faye Squire. “Pairing a more casual-leaning polo top with silk skirts, tailored pants or indigo denim will form the basis of many transitional outfits, while gold jewelry and a pair of loafers add an element of polish,” she adds.

Follow Squire’s lead by teaming Stella McCartney’s cult chevron-striped cardigan from the fall/winter ’26 runway with Slvrlake’s straight-leg ‘London’ jeans and Gucci’s ‘Vittoria’ slingbacks in tan suede. Next, add a pair of classic gold hoops and finish with Celine’s ‘Runner’ sunglasses for an editor-approved take on athleisure.
